a = amount of work done by anne in one hour
b = amount of work done by bruce in one hour

4a + 4b = W(work)

6a + 3b = W

which implies 2a = b

which gives W = 12a

So it takes anne 12 hours to complete the work

work = rate * time

Working together, normal rate: 1(job) = (A + B) *4 => 1/4 = A+B
Working together, double speed of A: 1(job) = (2A+ B) *3 => 1/3 = 2A+B

Bruce & Ann-- together complete work in 4 hrs-- rate is 1/4. Assuming Bruce rate is B and Ann rate is A
Now Ann doubles her speed thus we can say 2A+b= 1/3 -- rate. We have 2 eq-- A+B=1/3 and 2A+b=1/4, subtracting them yeilds a=1/12-- this is the work done by Ann in 1 hr, so we can say Ann completes 1/12 work in 1 hr, therefore she will complete the whole work in 12 hrs.

1/a+1/b=4
1/a+1/b/2=3
Abstract both, you will find the answer B=12
