Do good bschools ever consider applicants with scores in the mid 500's if they have a lot of work experience and higher education? ...

I am trying to get into Richard Ivey and am scoring around mid 500's .... i have a CGA and an honors commerce degree with 5 years of work experience coupled....

I know its really subjective and vague? but just looking for some thoughts!

Yes, there are quite a few good schools that will consider strong candidates with GMAT scores in the mid 5's. For example, the 10-90 range at Case Western was 470-700.

I know of a couple of people with scores in the upper 500's who got into HBS recently. You have to demonstrate through your essays that you have the ability to do the coursework. This can be done through essays as mentioned above and through a strong GPA in your university coursework. The interview will also be more important in such cases...I would think. My point is that anything is possible; you have to compensate for this handicap in other ways.
