Hello friends,

I have applied to business schools for an MS in Finance degree and so far have received admits from the following schools:

1) Ohio State - Fisher School
2) Uni of Illinois Urbana Champaign
3) Penn State - Smeal College
4) Uni of Illinois
5) Bentley College

All of the above are STEM designated. My area of interest is asset management / Corporate Finance.

Any views on which school would be a good choice? Maybe basis career fairs, professors, job opportunities, proximity to those jobs etc.

Kindly let me know at the earliest please. Would be grateful.

Regards,
Shravan

Hi there,

I don't know whether my I'm that well qualified to answer your question, but I'll still chip in with my two cents on the matter.

Ohio/Penn/Illinois-Urbana are all peer schools, generally speaking. Ohio State and Illinois-Urbana have well-established MSF programs, while Penn State's program is new. Keeping that in mind, the final choice is between Ohio State or Illinois-Urbana. If it was up to me, I would go with Ohio State as it has a much more diverse class profile.

P.S: I will be attending Penn State's MCF program this year.

Congrats on your admits!

Sorry, MSF programs are a bit of a different animal from the usual MBA talk we have but there is a good chance that the big boss in the company you will be trying to get a job at, would have attended one of the MBA programs, so would help to pick an MSF from a well-ranked MBA program.

Ohio seems to be a good combination of rank and location. UIUC is in Chicago so it is a good opportunity as well for networking and being close to the job market, but its MBA rank is not great.
