Internationals can DEFINITELY apply for ED. In fact in some cases it makes more sense to (it gives more time to organize visas, financing, moving etc.) I met one Columbia ED admit in Sydney not too long ago.

Just reoriented my priorities, although I really liked New York, I probably would prefer either chicago schools. Also looking at the acceptances for ED (all 2 of them) I don't think ED really improve your odds at all.

Columbia has summer students/classes from their January intake. Do you think I should visit the school during the summer if I'm thinking of applying ED? It may not be in full swing, but I think I can still pool some info and get a feel for the campus... (I live in Canada).

That's a good observation to know about regarding ED. CBS I feel is really hard to gauge in terms of admissions chances. I've heard things about them being more numbers focused than others and also about how post-meltdown CBS (and NYU) would be flooded with bankers the most. It was close to one of my top choices at one point, but now I am on the fence/leaning towards not applying because I feel I have a better shot at Kellogg. Given that I plan on applying to Haas and Booth, I felt like 4 reaches would be too many.

So I'm not sure if I should be happy to have fellow Canadians on the board... looks like the applicant pool is strong  (just kidding)

Went to the info session today.. and just to confirm intl students CAN apply for ED.
Just sticking with intl students... Columbia have yet not finalized anything for fin-aid/loans. Work in progress.

One possible reason for not allowing internationals in ED is that there might be more external factors that would prevent an international from being able to fully commit (the current loan climate, visas, etc.) No proof of this, just brainstorming.

Yes, Columbia accepts internationals for ED, so did it in the 2008 application season. And your brainstorming proved correct - internationals had commited to Columbia accepting ED terms and paying $6.000, but now they are left without non-co signed loans due to current financial situation.

These guys are now without admit from other schools (apps withdrawn or not even submitted), without loans and without deposits. Columbia commited to refund only $4.000 in the case they failed to secure financial package.

Very bad for Colubia's reputation, they seem to be the only M7 school that failed to secure non co-signed loans for internationals. Prospective applicants should be aware of this fact and to be very cautious when applying to b-schools next fall.
