regarding the "familiarization" question...

I actually asked the director of domestic admissions about it at the World MBA tour. I was planning to visit the school, but I couldn't do it until after the R1 deadline. I asked him if it would benefit me to apply R2 instead so I could talk about the visit in my essay. Suprisingly, he told me to apply R1 because it wouldn't make a big difference.

Does Berkeley look for older applicants?

I'm just saying because I don't recall reading anywhere that Haas encourages undergraduates to apply.

I think I read somewhere that Haas fancies older guys - their average class age is about 29.

Yeah, me too. Isn't the deadline in a few days? This is going to be a big fat ding. I wish they would just tell me now instead of waiting it out.

Man, I thought I had a pretty good chance too. My stats are better than their averages, I have good work exp with some mgmt responsibilities, I visited, I have some good leadership extracirculars, and I not interested in tech (which I presume many of their applicants are). But I had a crappy innovation essay and no community service.

Don't lose hope guys.

I have a feeling that they're trying to manage their yields and seeing what R2 applicants look like.

They said that interview invites would go out all the way up till the decision date.

Waitlisted here too. I seem to have a talent for getting on the waitlist.

Was anybody on this board waitlisted or denied after getting an interview to Haas?

I was really surprised that I made the waitlist after not getting an interview invite. Not sure why they would have done that--seems like that if they decided to waitlist me, that would have at least tossed out an interview invite before the decisions went out.

It is encouraging that they take 50% of waitlisted candidates.

It's very strange.

They dinged quite a few people who interviewed at the SS, but waitlisted some people who didn't even interview.

Any guesses why?

I interpret the waitlist e-mail this way.

It seems Berkeley's interview is a make it or break it opportunity. People invited to SS are the top candidates. Since the space at this weekend is limited, those just below the top candidates are put on the waitlist so they can be compared against the next round. Waitlist candidates are able to schedule interviews at their leisure but they do not get the whole sales pitch SS provides. Again, this waitlist interview is probably a make it or break it opportunity. I say this because Haas has admitted up to 50% of waitlist candidates in the past.
