Hey guys,

I had the opportunity to interact with the Associate Dean while he was visiting Mumbai for an info session. I had scheduled a 30 min chat with him. Here I'm sharing a few takeaways:

1) Cornell, primarily, looks for three things in a candidate:
a) The kind of impact he/she is willing to make using the business education imparted
b) The kind of transformation he/she is seeking to bring forth ( this can include personal life, profession or society on the whole)
c) The capability of the candidate (this includes career progression, GPA, and GMAT)

Drew stressed on the need to be articulate and succinct in the application. In this context, the resume becomes very important. He shared examples of how people tend to write the same thing over and over again in different roles, which gets very boring to read.

I personally found an inclination towards tech. He mentioned classes such as Digital Operations when questioned about ops/ ops consulting.

Also, Indians and Asians, on the whole, do not need to strive for a higher than average GMAT to make the cut (sic)

I encourage everyone on the forum to share their interaction with members of the Adcom and other Cornellians so as to help fellow applicants in Round 3 and 4

PS: There was a Meet and Greet with fellow students in Mumbai. Did anyone attend that?
There are more scheduled for Hyderabad, Chennai, and New Delhi in India and across various locations around the world.
You can find the information here

I also just received the admitted email. How and where do I check the amount of aid/scholarship for me? If there's one...?

If you got one, it'd be in the acceptance letter.

For the back of your resume. I am planning to write an essay. Any suggestions? Does it really have to be a video?

I would recommend that you do a video because you're Indian, you're part of a very overrepresented group and when you have stacks and stacks of Indian applicant essays they sort of run together in your mind. I've been in this position.

It would help you to really differentiate yourself and become more of a real person to them, show your personality and all together just become more Vivid.

Sorry I know that was probably not the answer you wanted to hear but I think that will give you the best chances of success. It doesn't have to be perfect.

Hello MBAPrepCoach. I am Nepalese who speaks Japanese fluently.

Yeah, I think the essay would be too traditional. Maybe I will do ppt with my voice and video in it.

Kind regards,
Akash

Please excuse me, I did not know of your specific nationality at all I was going based on your name and who is most represented on this forum. I'm not conflating any ethnicities here so I just want you to be clear on that. Given that you're probably going to be a more diverse applicant than my previous estimation that might reduce the need to have a video if that's something that would really get in the way of your ability to complete quality apps.

Hi MBAPrepCoach,

Thanks for your help here. Would you recommend doing an infographic for an Indian?

An infographic is better than an essay but I honestly would recommend a video more than anything. Frankly I would recommend that for everyone, but even more so Indians because they're often seen as being very similar and this is a way for them to see you as different from others. An infographic if that is all you can do right now is better than an essay but a video would be the best thing. Whatever makes you more of a real person to them. If you are looking at a flat piece of paper and you seen many of them that look just the same and then you see someone walk up to you which one is going to have the most impact. Which will get your attention? Which one will have stopping power?

Did you attend the Cornell waitlist webinar on Jan 7th? They want you to make an action plan at which point they will provide feedback.

Guys can anyone confirm if the application status gets updated to "under review" once they start reviewing your app or does it still reflects submitted.
I have submitted app in Round 3, however, my status says only submitted and I am not able to track regarding the status of the documents that I have submitted.

It'll change to Under Review once they start reviewing, it might take them some time though...it's not immediate.
