During the Round 1 (deadline Oct 15), the first interview invite was recorded on this Forum on November 2 = roughly 2 weeks after the deadline.

The Round 1 decision release may influence the speed of processing Round 2 applications. But I suspect that the interview invite could start flowing in starting January 24th. This will be also in line with the guideline that interviews start "late January".

One more week to go.

By the ways, I have not heard back from my application manager, the submission confirmation indicated I will get in touch with. Has anyone else on the same boat?

Hi all, I've temporarily disabled the google spreadsheet because I will go ahead and take an active approach to updating the first page.

If you spot an error or anything that's not correct on the frontpage, please let me know and I'll make the corrections. Otherwise, I've gone through all 38 pages of Darden thread and jot down all the people who said something about adding them onto a specific round. (Of course, I may have missed a few here and there, but the missing fews should be minimal, if any)

Is there still hope?

I'm sure there is.

Looking back in this thread the Rd 1 invites went from Monday to Monday (at least those that were reported on here) so there is still time. I just HATE this waiting game.

Tfincham - I personally find when I'm specifically waiting for one thing at one time it doesnt seem to come. I didn't even know Darden was giving out invites yet when mine came. Flipside, I had long given up on Yale SOM when that interview invite came. For schools with rolling admissions, thinking there is a pattern and planning your day around it only makes you miserable, sometimes for months. Sure invites came the first two days at 4pm but there is no rule that says you cant get invited at noon or 1pm.

I hope you get an interview today at 4pm! but more importantly I hope you stop stressing over it - Look back at R1 and you will find applicants who got invited late and then got in and you will find people invited early who did not get in.

Guys,
I am a round 2 applicant and have NOT heard back from my admissions manager yet. Is it normal? Have other round 2 applicants already got an email from their application managers?

If your last name starts with an A-K, Pat is your application manager. She has been fairly sick on and off for the last two weeks.

I sent a couple of emails about a significant accomplishment that took place after submitting the application. Over the course of a week and a half I never received a response. Today, I called and Pat acknowledged the emails and said that they would be added to my file. She apologized for not responding sooner. Hope that helps.

I called the admissions office directly.

Does anyone know when classes/orientation start and also how early do most students get to Charlottesville?

I believe classes will start mid-August and preliminary (voluntary) classes (for those with limited business background) will start a week prior to the actual classes.

I'd say that if you get to C'ville by beginning of August, you should have plenty of time to settle down and explore a bit before school actually starts.

I applied in round 2, and was very excited to get an invite to interview today (2:20 PM EST). I live in Israel, and will have a live interview here as well.

By the way, is this a good place to share ideas and tips on preparing for the interview or is there another thread for this? I think we invitees can work together, leave the dings to the people on other forums

Good luck to the rest of applicants, international ,multinational and otherwise.

Hi there, within this thread you can certainly discuss about strategies with the application and interview process. The interview is quite informal, and is held on Darden grounds. You get to really enjoy the atmosphere and what Darden can offer you and naturally, you'd be curious to see as well what your \$100,000 tuition is going to for the next two years. As indicated by multiple sources, including our own interviewees (myself as well), the interview itself is really circling one main problem - "tell me your story". Many interviewees were given this question and the natural flow of this interview quickly turns into a conversation. The interviewer will then ask questions in regards to your background, history, education, work experiences, and decisions that made you who you are today. My pointer for any person going into Darden interview is to be prepared to talk about your life. You can pretty much start wherever you would like to start, but you have to be able to discuss choices you've made and learnings you've absorbed throughout.

A little query. Is your online application status also changed?

hi Hussain, upon a reqeust to interview at Darden, your online application status will be changed to "Invited to Interview" (or along the lines of that). In addition to that, you'll see further instructions and changes to your online account for scheduling purposes.

Im not trying to me mr morality, I just think current situation is a very difficult thing to mask. I mean would if you tell them you still work at place A and they say, oh thats great - what current project are you working on? Then you are just digging a deeper trench or forced to come clean about a past lie. Darden seems to be accepting of career switchers and understanding of circumstances, so I'm happy to be playing my cards face up.

I just finished a day at Darden. I interviewed, took school tour, sat in on class and had lunch with several Darden 1st years and professors.

Interview: Standard Darden interview - "Tell me your story (30 min. monologue), Why MBA?, Why Darden?" It was conducted by a second year.
Class Visit: This was BY FAR the best class visit of the 6 schools I have visited. The class was on decision analysis and was VERY interactive and lively. I can see why Darden is ranked #1 out of all MBA programs for teaching/faculty. Personally I get much more out of the case method than the traditional professor lecture.
Campus Tour: Really impressive grounds/buildings. I particularly liked the fact that the Darden School/campus is ONLY MBA, which means there are no undergrad business majors there creating more traffic--they have their own business school on the main UVA campus. There are several buildings, open space, patio's/outdoor tables...best of all was the weather - Sunny and 70F!
Lunch: Q&A with First year students and professors sitting at our table. Very informal and open.

My summary: Darden's stock went WAY up for me on this trip. I don't want to put any other school down because they are all excellent choices, but Darden went above and beyond my expectations.

Now for the long wait until D-Day (3/24)...

With all due respect - 560 GMAT equiviliant makes me wonder, how did you manage to get an interview invite from Tuck in the first place. I would expect such score to have an automatic ding from any top20 program.
If I were in your shoes, I would go for far lower ranked schools to make sure I am accepted in at least on of them.
Hopefully you'll do better in your next attempt as 560 is definetelly an application killer.

Agreed. Your priority here is to raise your GMAT score. The reality is that a good GMAT will not get you in, but a GMAT below the middle 80% (~640-750) will pretty much assure you a ding at any top school. I would say that at this point, assuming your GMAT score does not improve drastically, you have 2 options:
1. Apply to schools outside of top 30
2. Somehow figure out how to make a run at applying next year. GMAT study being the priority

I actually was in a similar situation as you last year. My GMAT was a 580 and I HAD to get into school that year. I only applied to one school and it wasn't even a top-30 school. Result: Dinged w/o interview.
Fast-Forward a year (and 4 months of rigorous, and I mean RIGOROUS GMAT studying) - I applied to 8 top 15 schools, getting interviews with 6 of them and awaiting final decisions.

What a difference a year can make if you plan and execute properly...

Good luck!

I've been admitted to several schools and as part of my admitted student checklist, I have been asked to submit to a background check by all schools, except Darden. I'm not sure if they do this before admit, but it's def not something I've been asked to do before matriculation... and most certainly have been asked by other schools.

Wow! For someone like me who has not got an admit from even a single school, the first line is very overwhelming

Hopefully, sooner or later, I will get there

Don't worry, pjman! I applied R1 to all my schools and that's the only reason I can say that. In just a matter of weeks, prob less than a month, you'll be there!

Cheers mate! Thanks for your kind words. Amen!

cricket.. cricket.

out of FML. Enjoy.

Today, I was answering a text from one of my students asking me if they could re-take a test. I thought I'd texted back "No, you can't." Auto correct had used a more frequently used word: "No, you cunt." FML

Thank you so much for all your feedback -- I took the GREs again this weekend and got my Q up to 620 -- no change on the verbal...not that it was hard or anything, I think I just put all my eggs into math and was just like whatever to the verbal. I guess I'll see how this month shakes out and I anticipate I'll know about Tuck, etc in time to plan to submit for UVA. Thanks again guys --- you all rock. I just wish I hadnt been overseas during this whole process!
