Just did my interview earlier today, which I think went pretty well. The customized welcome folder is pretty impressive and gives a good rundown of potential clubs and programs to join based on my application.

Like others have said here, it was pretty relaxed and conversational. My interviewer had read my full app and was familiar with my essays. I didn't get any tricky interview questions, just why career-switch, what can you bring from your previous experience, why Stern, etc. I did have to recount a couple of specific stories from work about problems I have solved and a time I failed at something. But all in all, I think everyone here has thought through this stuff so much while doing apps that it shouldn't be a problem.

I also did the Lunch with students which was very relaxed, and all of the current students were awesome and helpful. I met solaris, who was helpful as always. It was hard to tell if I did "well" - but I guess there's no way to know... My interviewer told me I will probably hear something around mid-January. Good luck to everyone :)

Got an acceptance email this afternoon (same exact time I got the acceptance call from Yale). Been one heck of a day! Interviewed Monday, 12/07.

Good luck to everyone, I could not have done it without this forum!

I also got an acceptance email earlier this afternoon. I am so freakin' excited. So that makes the final order for me:

Submitted App: 11/12
Status Check Email: 11/16
Interview Invite: 12/3
Interview: 12/7
Decision: 12/18

I would reiterate what a few other people were saying today, though. I DEFINITELY DEFINITELY would not let this discourage anyone who hasn't heard yet... They specifically say that they will be sending interview invites through February, so I think this was just the first bulk they got through. GOOD LUCK to everyone!!

I don't know what Stern's thoughts are on limits, but I found it really helpful to read my essay backwards sentence by sentence and I found words to cut then.

During a school visit, I asked the same question and was told by an adcom member that stern is stricter than other schools vis-a-vis limits. I kept all my essays within 1% of the limits -- a few words here and there are immaterial. 33 words is over 6.6%. I say bring it down to 515 or so. That's not as hard as 500.

just thought i'd update since this forum has been so good to me.

i got waitlisted (w/o interview) at stern. this is on top of getting waitlisted at columbia. (the only two schools i've applied to).

evaluating my app, the only redflag i can think of is my gpa.

i had a 710 gmat, and i think my essays, recs, work exp were all at least decent (in any case, i can't see them being hindrances).

which leaves my gpa (piss poor). i retook the gmat thinking i really should have done better... and improved my

I am in a similar situation. 5 yrs work-ex, award-winning author, one leadership award at work, other awards during UG, superb leadership in ECs, etc etc. UG-GPA = 2.5. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, 2.5. GMAT 710 (Q49,V38). Adding my name here so if someone has a success story with similar profiles, I'd like to hear.

Hey MMtrader,

Thanks! I was waitlisted w/o interview last year. However, these are the things that helped me in getting in this time-
1. Last year I had vague goals and although I wished to switch to Media industry, I didn't present compelling enough reasons. This time, my goals were very specific and I had done a lot of industry research over past year. PM me if you need specifics.
2. I had few new leadership stories but mainly I worded my achievements in much better way I guess.
3. I had 2-3 newer solid extracurriculars + 1 community example (I didn't just join an org).
4. I had a promotion though not a major one.

Overall, I was very specific in my goals and how will I be able to make the switch. In this regard, all the career switchers please expect detailed interview question about 'what would you do to find an internship' + 'how fill you find a job' + 'what if you dont find it'. Luckily, I had very focused answers for these. The only disadvantage I felt was I am not a great interviewee, I am not great at speaking out my thoughts coherently. I am glad that I didn't do too bad!
But yes, have clear cut career focus and a holistic story that ties what you have done to what you plan to do.

One more thing - although reapps are not required to submit essay2, I did submit it because I wanted to emphasize on how well I knew Stern program and how much I had thought about the details of what I am looking for through my MBA.

Thanks LB20, I would be glad to join you :)
Also, are you invited for summer start? Any schol info in your package?

So here is what Stern says for Essay 3:

Quote:
Please be aware that only .doc, .rtf, .xls, and .txt files may be uploaded here. If you submit Essay 3 with your supplementary materials, please include a brief description of it here.

But the upload system is accepting pdf! I was planning to submit slides here (.ppt converted to .pdf). But reading the statement above I am confused.

Suggestions?

Screenshots put into word?

I might be wrong, but I am almost 100% positive I submitted a PDF version of the word doc I did for Essay 3 that described what I was sending in the mail. Maybe you should just call them in the morning, they were really helpful when I called and asked a few totally random questions. They don't even ask your name or anything.

Finally done with all of my applications and feeling really relieved. Now it's time to go back in the party zone :)

@LB20

You are correct! whatever document you have uploaded is finally getting converted to pdf internally. So you can upload the pdf document directly. I didn't try it but I don't see any issue in uploading the pdf document. Only modification internally it do is put the name, applicant number and the essay number on top corners.

In my case, because of many photos in my 3rd essay, document was sized around 1.5 MB. Using photo editor I reduced the size of the pics and cut down the size of the document to 498 KB to upload the document.

About to submit for R2! Curious to see how many previous admits did an essay on Q3. I remember at the info session they mentioned about 30% did essays, wondering what percentage of admits did essays.
I express myself much better through words, and my essay is not traditional by any means. I am not an artist by any means and when I saw what I came up with in PPT, i scraped it and decided to write instead.

Any other essay submissions out there? maybe ill be unique in that i wasnt unique :-P

hi guys, just received interview invite, so excited! did not think it will come that quickly. I am international student and submitted for R2 at the end of December. I know that NYU likes oncampus interviews. Is there a downside with trying to interview with alumn? or do you recommend going to NY? i've already visited campus few months ago. Good luck to all!
