Taking classes are especially useful if they are quant heavy, i.e. Stats, Calculus, Accounting, Finance, and Econ would be some of the most common ones to take.

Thanks but the problem is that we dont have such a thing in India. universities typically do not offer you to take just one subject or two.. So that option is ruled out I guess..

However, I've heard positive reviews of one particular course called mbamath.com by Prof Reagan. Have you heard of it? If yes, then how do you rate it?

I would not agree that we can not do such a thing in India ... There are global certifications in almost any field you want to pursue through MBA ... for ex. if you are interested in Finance you can always go for a CFA certification in India ... its just a matter of using Google and trawling through a few pages of information ... Hopefully you can find something that suits your needs

CFA certification! I wish!! but alas, I'm really out of time you see (for R1. even R2 for that matter) and CFA will need a lot of dedication and time.

Are you aware of any institute in India (of good repute really, otherwise the adcom will discount it) that will allow me to take 1 calculus and 1 finance subject? I have time for only these many subjects actually.

I for one have looked hard but to no avail.

A little googling led me to this : http://www.cel.sfsu.edu/calculus/
I do not know if this serves your exact purpose but I am sure you can find others ... tell me if you find this useful, and I would put it up on my blog

I'm aware of online courses. check this site http://www.mbamath.com (recommended to me by a Tuck representative visiting India) Many colleges teach this course (over 150 as claimed in the web site). Also, GMAC has a similar product called MBA business ready but I've not read an authentic review of it so far. Will keep looking.

But so far, I've not seen an Indian uni allowing students to take 1 or 2 subjects to build alternate transcripts, either by taking class room exams or online. Are you aware of any such Uni?

the web site you found looks quite sharp. Can you post the key words you used, even i'll do some searching. Thanks!

I have taken the mbamath course. It is a great refresher (or intro) of basic principles of accounting, finance, stats, and a bit of calculus (basic derivitives). It is quite easy and you can go at your own pace. Mbamath.com is good for brushing up prior to starting school but it will NOT impress anyone on the adcom. It is not viewed as rigorous or credible enough to substitute for full-blown courses. I know that UCLA, MIT, Berkeley and BYU all offer highly regarded online courses where you can go as fast or slow as you want. I have taken BYU's courses online and they are excellent, I have friends who have finished the calculus course in under 6 weeks. I have found them to be the least expensive (about $500-$600 per class vs. \$1200+ for most online courses).

I think an alternate transcript or a certificate is a must to complete counter a low undergrad GPA. From my limited experience it seems that a high GMAT score helps but doesn't completely substitute for a low GPA.
I remember that some reputed MBA universities offer online courses - HAAS , Thunderbird.

Did you check the low gpa sucess stories thread ?

Thanks.

Is any one else facing problems on the Page 6 - Activities & Honors of the Ross Application.

In my case it says :- This page is only required for BBA, Master of Accounting and Master of Supply Chain applicants.

For Indian IT candidates, 650 is definitely on the lower side. 4+ years of job ex is also average. If you think your community involvement is extraordinarily strong and it will set you apart from other candidates with higher GMATs and same work experience, then you absolutely should apply. GMAT, work ex are important in an application but you should remember that they're just a part of the story of your life. Adcoms will judge your candidacy on the basis of your overall personality..

If I retake the GMAT then would a 20-30 point increase or at the max a 50 point increase in my GMAT score improve my chances?

Also, by the time I join I would be having 5 years of experience and that too in reputed companies like Deloitte and L&T Infotech.

All of major consulting firms, such as MBB, Accenture, Deloitte, etc, recruit here. About 30% of Ross grads go into consulting, and of this 30%, 2/3s accept positions in strategy consulting.

I had dinner with a local MBB office a few weeks ago, and one of the three EMs present was a Ross grad.

If consulting is what you're interested in, there are plenty of resources here. And I suspect that this is the case at most of the top 15 schools.
