Re: Calling all US Military Fall 2009 applicants! [#permalink]
Good Idea. I misread the "2009" portion because of the fact it was surrounded with 2010 threads. I'll repost the advice I put on the new thread once its up along with the attachment I put on.

I've heard the same thing regarding applying for so many schools. Hence why I'm still tossing around the idea for HBS R1. I guess it all depends on how I do tomorrow.

I'd say that the disadvantage of applying to HBS in Round 1 is that it will probably be your weakest app in terms of essays. However, that could be offset by being able to focus on it along for that round. In turn though, doing five schools in Round 2 will be extra challenging. I've had several friends that applied to 5+ schools in a single round and their advice that 3 or 4 in one round is realistic and that they felt their best app was the last one. Of course, it really depends on your personality in terms of working against deadlines and time available etc. Sounds like since you've already got your short list of schools the best thing is to take the GMAT and then go from then decide based on whether a second try is needed. Good luck!

Since it looks like there's enough interest, I'll start up a new 2010 Applicants thread so this can keep going.

Great Forum. Im a former Army Officer, out since late 2007. I wanted to spend a couple years in the civilian sector prior to going back to school. I have been working as a consultant for almost 2 years and decided that Fall of 2010 would be my year. The Army had other plans however, as I have been recalled from the IRR back to active duty with a 13 month deployment to Afghanistan. Nothing like getting huge plans interrupted by the unexpected.

Prior to leaving Im going to retake the GMAT since 1st attempt didnt quite meet my expectations, and hopefully complete applications from overseas and hope for Fall 2011.

A comment on the new GI Bill: This seems to be a great deal when combined with the yellow ribbon program. Some schools contribute quite a bit towards tuition. You can visit the VA website and get a listing of what each school will contribute. The range is quite shocking from school to school.
