Hey there. Another R1 applicant here. Yale is my uber-reach, but figured I'd give it a shot anyhow.

From what I understand, schools DO look at the breakdown of your V/Q score. Right now, I've got 95/57 percentiles on those two, respectively, and I'm taking 'er again to raise that quant. It would be sweet if they didn't, but the Powers That Be look at your Q score to determine quantitative ability.

Spent a summer in New Haven once. The town is godawful, though is some great Thai food to be had.

Yeah, I have to say that the class is very impressive. There are 4 that I know of in my cohort who scored over 760. I feel a little inferior to that but you would never know the difference between a 760 and 660 when it comes to the class discussion or interaction.

Joining the thread as a possible early R2 applicant (think mid-December), still have to visit the school and do my research however. But I've finally decided I can't bear to leave the New York metropolitan area and am seriously considering switching Darden (my original choice for a lone R2 application) for Yale SOM.

Fantastic curriculum, and from what I've heard, a really smart and likeable student body. And as someone with a GMAT verbal score much higher than the quant, it sounds like I'll fit right in.

I seem to be the only one who thinks the application essays are really hard, however.

I'm thinking of substituting my Cornell R2 app for Yale. After visiting Cornell, the place seems really remote. Going to NYC would not be something you could do in one day (driving).

It's kind of unfortunate because Yale's essays are much more difficult than Cornell's.

We're probably hijacking the Yale thread here, refurb. So I shall PM you my views on Cornell.

I am with you Solaris. I think the Yale essays are pretty tough (especially the optional ones).

You need to explain like 5 things in each essay.... meh

I think I will add Yale to my list for R2...really attracted by their focus on social impact and the essays fit very well with my goals & accomplishments.

that being said, i have a question on one of their essays...more specifically on the definition of "professional":

Quote:
Describe a professional accomplishment that exhibits your leadership style. The accomplishment should include evidence of your leadership skills, a description of the actions you took, as well as the impact you had on your organization.

i lead a volunteer employee group at work that is extracurricular in the respect that there is little-to-no overlap with my "day job," however it has made a great impact on our organization as a whole. by "professional" is the adcom looking for an example strictly from my profession (engineering), or something that has made an impact in the professional environment that i work in?

I have sad news to report to the GMATClub community about Yale SOM and also an exciting look into the future. I want to let you know what is going on before rumors start flying around. Joel Podolny, Dean of Yale SOM, is leaving the university on November 1 for a position at Apple. While we are all upset about the departure of Podolny due to the many changes he has instituted, his interim and possible replacement, Sharon Oster, is very capable. She is a world-renowned economics professor and has been at SOM for over 20 years. Also, she was an integral decision maker in the new curriculum and is focused on moving forward with the changes and innovative ideas already in place. Dr. Oster will be missed in the classroom, but we are excited to have her as our Dean. Let me know if I can address any specific questions in the ambassador section.

Anyone who visits is free to contact me for a quick discussion or cup of coffee. Let me know a few weeks in advance so I can try to find a time that is free.

Oh no, that's rather disappointing. J-Pod was a big reason behind my interest in Yale!
Dean Oster will have her work cut out.

Any idea when Yale SOM interviews are likely to come through based on when they were sent out last year?
