Hi @Experts' Global Team, MartyTargetTestPrep,

If "a human being" and "one human being" both represent the same thing, can you please help me understand why option C "a meteorite will strike one human being once in every nine years" is wrong?

I agree with TommyWallach 100% on this one (see https://gmatclub.com/forum/canadian-scientists-have-calculated-that-one-human-being-should-be-101939.html#p764151).

Choice (C) makes it sound as though one SPECIFIC human being is going to get hit by a meteorite every nine years. The indefinite article ("a") in (D) is more general and is a better fit given the context: a meteorite will hit SOME human being every nine years, but not necessarily the same poor soul.

Two things to keep in mind:

    1) This question is very old and probably not worth worrying about too much.

    2) GMAT SC is about finding the BEST choice out of the five available. In a vacuum, is (C) absolutely wrong because it violates some sort of rule? Maybe not. But (D) is a better choice.
