Car A and car B are driving towards each other along straight line. Car A travels at a constant speed of 60 miles/hr and car B travels at a constant speed of 40 miles/hr. If at noon they are separated by a distance of 300 miles, at what time will they meet?

(A) 2.40 pm
(B) 3.00 pm
(C) 3.20 pm
(D) 3.40 pm
(E) 4.00 pm

Given:
1. Car A and car B are driving towards each other along straight line.
2. Car A travels at a constant speed of 60 miles/hr and car B travels at a constant speed of 40 miles/hr.

Asked: If at noon they are separated by a distance of 300 miles, at what time will they meet?

Distance to be travelled = 300 miles
Relative speed = 60 + 40 = 100 miles/hr
Let the time taken to meet be T hours

300 = 100 * T
T = 3 hrs

Time when they meet = 3:00 pm

To meet each other the cars will cover 300 miles together at their respective rate.

Let, time time is \(x\)

So, \(60x+40x=300\)

\(100x=300\)

\(x=3\)

The meeting time = \(12+3=15 \ or 3 \ pm\)

The answer is \(B\)
