Certain task was completed in three hours. 2/9 of the task was completed during the first hour and 2/3 was completed during the third hour, the work completed during the second hour is what fraction of the work completed in the third hour?
A. 1/18
B. 4/27
C. 1/9
D. 1/6
E. 1/2
Let x = work done in the second hour
\(\frac{2}{9}\) + x + \(\frac{2}{3}\)\(= 1\), so
\(2 + 9x + 6 = 9\)
\(9x = 1\)
\(x = \frac{1}{9}\)
Work completed in second hour is what fraction of work completed in the third hour, i.e.
\(\frac{2nd hr}{3rd hr}\)=\(\frac{1}{9}\) divided by \(\frac{2}{3}\)
= (\(\frac{1}{9} * \frac{3}{2})= \frac{3}{18}= \frac{1}{6}\)
