the general point is to maintain a one-inch margin for your essay on all sides.. I dont thinking it will be wise to cut down margins more than that.. else it will do fine..

Is that the standard?

Because Microsoft Word defaults the left and right margins to 1.25"

I'm just leaving it default and squeeze everything in between.

I left the margins standard (whatever words default is) on all my docs too.

nope its not a standard but i spoke to some of current students at my schools.. especially Tepper.. they said it'll show heavily on the PDF if you go beyond 1 inch.. I guess if you have just one or two lines extra.. that can be included in the doc by adjusting the margin from 1.25 to 1 on the left and right sides.. anytn more than that and mate u'll've to trim your essays..

P.S: dont ever think of adjusting the top margins.. theres'a chance that some of the information at the top may get cut while uploading the doc into PDF..
