1+1+2C1

how did you get this
0 is a subset for every set then there is one subset of {a,c} then in {a,c,x} where we have 2 choices for x and we have to choose one so 2C1

Is the answer correct though?

Sure, I just saw my earlier explanation had an error. In this questions it’s not asked to give proper subsets which means even the original one can be a subset which has a and c, which should have been the 1st one I mentioned before. Now when we check a subset with 2 entries it’s just one possibility which is {a,c} which is the 2nd one. Now finally we have a subset with 3 entries in which a and c is fixed so we have either b or d as the 3rd term, which in combination terms would be 2c1 which is to choose 1 out of 2

How many subsets of the set {a,b,c,d} { , , , } , containing both elements a and c (order of elements does not matter), are there? A. 3 B. 4 C. 5 D. 6 E. 7
Cases:

just a and c - 1
a,c and some other number: there is 1 way to choose ac and 2c1 ways to choose the second number, foe a total of 2 ways
a,c,b,d is its own subet so 1 way

total: 1+2+1=4

0 is not a valid subset because the subsets must include a and c

You can definitely try out the free GMAT Club Mock Test. They are good in my opinion. Felt good...

If you are looking out for resources, it is better you join any online coaching institute. You can take free demo classes.

Because your prep has to be structured. Avoid studying randomly.

Through 1st statement it can be seen that B>a but not if c>b. It just says c+1 >b. B can be greater than c but less than c+1. Answer should be B.

DS Question 1 - October 11 Is a < b < c ? (1) a - 1 < b < c + 1 (2) a + 1 < b < c - 1 Source: Math Revolutions | Difficulty: Hard
1) b<c+1 but b can equal c or be less than, ins
2) b<c-1<c and a<a+1<b so we fan say a<a+1<b<c-1<c

sufficient

B

The price of a wooden log increases with the length linearly. A long wooden block is chopped off along its cross-section into three pieces of length in the ratio 1:2:3. Because of this, the total price increased by Rs. 30. If the price of the original log was Rs. 45 more than the price of the new smallest log, find the price of the new largest log.

Options are 36, 54, 46, 42, 14

can someone explain this one

Also, is this a medium level question? I was unable to solve this one
