A silly question, a% means a/100 correct?

Guys, I think I’ve reached the stage where I need to ask this. Whats the best set of practice for Algebra (words, power & roots, technically anything with x,y,n,m). Cause my brain freeze with Algebra is bad and I’ve done a lot of practice but still need more hygiene. Its really the one thing thats holding me back.

I have all Bunuel’s compilations but I think I need more mid-level practice for the muscle memory & mental prep.

I live by his teachings. People say Charles is GOD. They forget that Bunuel is doing a greater job for all of us who are in desperate need of help.
Like you know Bunuel always have your back for Quant.
Also, Pooja, dw, we got your back incase Bunuel gets too busy dealing with our antics.

I think the solution could be (x/y) *100 =5.
So Y =20X

Nvm actually. We can’t figure how many items were produced in a day since we need the number of defective items produced during that day,which is not given

Hey the answer is option A, let us take x as 5 and y as 100, using option A you can directly find y as 100, 5/0.05 = 100 , so option is A

You can try with other value also, option A seems okay

The question doesn’t say that X was the number of defective items produced during that day. It just says X items out of every Y items are found to be defective.

That’s a general fact

read the second line after that, 5% are defective, then out of 100 produced, 5 are defective, because it is saying there can be only defective/nondefective

Think its Option E

X:Y is a ratio.. it just X out of every Y... so 1 out of 20 or 5% of 100 is the same thing. We have 2 variables here while just one equation so think cant be solved

Even if you took 1 out of 20, you can use x/0.05 = 1/0.05 = 20 would be the ans

so for all the value if you take x/0.05 will give you the ans

Dont think so: (1) X out of every Y items were defective (please note it is not X out of Y but X out of every Y so is expressed in ratio) (2) 5% of total (let’s say "a)" are defective are the 2 equations. Then what’s the a? X out of every a = 5% of

Now assuming total is 400 then defective will be 5% of 400 ie. 80. How will you get that from X/0.05 if you could tell

With 2 equations in ratio/percentage.. you cant never tell total. You would atleast need one of the two variables : either total items or defective items or nondefective items.. none of these 3 are available

oops I goofed up with numbers. But in same example say 1600 total and 5% being 80.. dont think we can get that answer by the X/0.05 option

At least he is trying. This Q is pretty confusing by itself. I wont be surprised if Bunuel pops in and says its (E) though (A) seem like the closest answer.

The question is the same as saying 1 out of every 5 items is defective and 20% of the items produced were defective.

That’s the same information written in ratio and %

5% of 1600 is 80 but not X.

Exactly that’s what I have been saying
