h= 2*4*6*....*100= (2^(50))*50!

h is divisible by any number till 50, but 1 won’t be. So, h(100)+1 won’t be divisible by any number till 50.

I have a fundamental question. Let’s say,
a+b+c+d=k, all integers. Then how many possible combinations of a,b,c,d can give a value of k? K can be 50 or 100 or any value. How to solve this

If a,b,c ,d are whole numbers then

(K+4-1) C (4-1)

If a,b,c,d are natural numbers then

(K-1) C (4-1)

4 -> because a,b,c,d are 4 numbers

E.g. Sum of a+b+c+d = 5
Then if abcd are whole numbers there are
8C3 = 56 cases

(5,0,0,0) -4 cases
(4,1,00) - 12 cases
(3,2,00) - 12 cases
(3,1,1,0) - 12 cases
(2,1,1,1) - 4 cases
(2,2,1,0) - 12 cases
Total 56 cases

If a 3 letter code has to be made without replacement from the letters of the word PEPPER. How many unique codes are possible
Case 1 : word will all different letters
P,e,r - 3P3 i.e 6 words

Case 2: word with 2 letters same and 1 different
Ppe
Ppe
Eer
Eep
From each we can make 3p3/2p2 cases i.e 3 cases each
So total 12 cases

Case 3: all three letters same
Ppp only 1 case

So total : 6+12+1 = 19 cases

What if a,b,c,d needs to be distinct?

Yes, Distance/Rate problems are part of both the DS and PS syllabus of GMAT Focus.
