Hloo. I’m still confused. In the question above, Shouldn’t the remaining work of B after A has done his 2/3rd of the work be, 1-(1/5*(1-2/3)? and not (1-1/5)*(1-2/3) ?
Think of it like this, there’s a cookie, A ate 2/3 of the cookie, 1/3rd is remaining, B eats 1/5th of this 1/3rd (and not 1/5th of the whole!). All in all he ate 1/5*1/3. So the remaining cookie will be 4/5ths of what was left after A ate which is 4/5th of the initial 1/3rd left by A. Now, you can write 4/5 as (1-1/5) and 1/3 as (1-2/3) and hence the term (1-1/5)(1-2/3)

Hope your doubt is resolved

Once you set the fundamentals right by practicing, you can do this too! We should all strive for @Bunuel ’s level of creativity and perfection in our solutions and that’s a pretty high bar to achieve so we automatically get better along the journey :D

Please can someone share his strategy to tackle MSR questions under the allowed time on the exam.

Sometimes I realised that question was easy to solve after spent much time on reading and understanding all the passages.

Hi

Hi

I can’t solve this question, can someone help me ?

Two machines, X and Y, working together at their respective constant rates for 14 hours, and then machine Y, working alone at its constant rate for an additional 4 hours, can produce a total of mitems. The time that it takes machine X, working alone at its constant rate, to produce m items is 8 hours less than the time that it takes machine Y, working alone at its constant rate, to produce m items. How many hours does it take machine Y, working alone at its constant rate, to produce m items?

possible answers:
28, 30, 32, 34, 36
