This is a good question for number picking. Used to make $10/hr and worked 100 hours. Making $1k. Increased wage to 12.5 And total is now $1,250.
Now we need hours to make 1000, which would be 80hrs. The answer is by 20 hours or 20% reduction.

I think you sold it correctly, you just stopped too soon because the answer was not how many hours a person should keep working but by how much should they reduce, 20%, B.

Why would the milkman steal milk? That’s unethical and why would they need to steal it? Who writes these questions? 😱🤯

Also , That question has four answer choices so that is clearly not a GMAT question. Are you studying for the GMAT with non-GMAT questions? 😬
I haven’t read the rest of the question but a milkman stealing milk is really the bottom of the barrel….

B

suppose H is the liquid he steals, so he takes out H/2 milk but adds h/5 milk: essentially making 50% of total+h/5-h/2= 25% of total

Wow. I want to know where this milk question is from. This is an amazing question…. This is an example of a question that is a whole new level…. Milk having 20% milk…. What is the 80% of the milk? What bottle is it talking about? Oh my word! Burn that book immediately. Even touching it will probably reduce your score. Being close to it will likely sap your mental powers. That is a horrible horrible horrible question that should be never posted anywhere. A milkman stealing milk and replacing it with milk 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

It’s a high level advanced math book, which covers all types of problems, that’s why I was studying mixtures from their.

Even they made this challenging

We have a ton of GMAT mixture questions in the problem-solving forum. Probably 1000 of them.

Maybe the rest of the book is great but reading this one question, it also first says “can”. Then it says bottle, the whole illegal enterprise and the confusion of milk and cream. These are glaring mistakes that should have been easily fixed. It’s very clear that the book was never proofread and nobody bothered to fix very glaring mistakes. I would think your time would be worth more.

In situations like these, you’ll find yourself solving questions that are not actually tested on the GMAT… That’s the downside besides shaking your confidence.

But, practices practice so I have to commend you on not giving up and even using crime material. I see so many people debating which material to use instead of jumping in and learning. So you don’t get the highest marks but you definitely doing better than average 👍
