Hi everyone!

I have a question about the Chicago Booth International Exchange programme and I thought I'd make a post to see if anyone has any insight.

Do you know how tough it is to get an exchange at universities like LBS, LSE, Bocconi etc? is there a lot of competition? Is it realistic to think I will be able to definitely do one if I go to Booth??

Any insight would be much appreciated!!

There is a lot of competition for an exchange semester at those schools. But it also depends on the bilateral agreements and the interest from both sides. (There might be 15 who wants to go from Booth to LBS whereas only 5 might like to go from LBS to Booth that semester...)
But, a high GPA should very well be a given in any case... Also maybe your career goals etc. because you'll have to write down an essay or something on why you want to spend a semester there. (It's not India or China so it's most probably be a career-wise choice than a cultural one if you consider the UK or Italy for that matter)

I'm interested in doing a thing like this at my program next year but maybe someone who has done, or in the verge of doing it might be of more help here. Best-

Thanks for your insight widerangeinput - I was afraid that was the case! I think getting an exchange might be slightly more challenging than anticipated. Good heads up on having a good reason for doing the exchange - I think my career goals are the main reason I want to do one so that should give me a head start... hopefully.

An exchange would be really important for me and I would be very disappointed if I couldn't do one in London - does anyone else have some input on this subject?? would love to hear your thoughts!

you're more than welcome! I'm going to try hard for London as well- career wise / geographic decision. maybe I'll see you there in fall 2012! good luck-

oh man and here I was debating whether I wanted to go to Hong Kong or Barcelona for a quarter abroad as if I could just choose where I wanted to go. Didn't realize it may be difficult to get accepted to the program.

I would love to do this, but another thing to consider is whether I would be missing too much of the program at home by going away for 2-3 months. I believe most students that go do so during the Winter quarter of their 2nd year, although Im sure you have to apply for this plenty in advance, so how do you know if you will have a job offer by that time or not? Would it be too risky to start looking for full-time work after returning in March? Would also be interested in hearing from others who have done this.
