Children of alcoholics are much more likely to become alcoholics than are children of nonalcoholics. The likelihood varies depending on which parent is alcoholic and is much greater if both are alcoholic. This pattern holds true even if children are separated from their alcoholic parent[s] at birth.

Which of the following conclusions can most reliably be drawn from the statements above?

Children of nonalcoholics do not become alcoholics.
Fathers influence their children’s alcoholic tendencies more than mothers do.
A tendency toward alcoholism can be at least partially determined by genetics.
Environment has little influence on alcoholism.
Because it is inherited, alcoholism is difficult to treat.
[Reveal] Spoiler: OA

Children of nonalcoholics do not become alcoholics. Too powerful
Fathers influence their children’s alcoholic tendencies more than mothers do.which parent influences more is not given and hence a wrong answer

Environment has little influence on alcoholism. no premise in the argument on the environment influence

in conclusion questions we have to make sure tht the option we mark can actually be proven from the info in the pargraph

a)stem says tht "Children of alcoholics are much more likely to become alcoholics than are children of nonalcoholics"
nowhere it talks abt NON ALCOHOLICS !
eliminate a
b)"The likelihood varies depending on which parent is alcoholic "
cannot say for sure if mother/father influence alcoholism more !
eliminate b
c)"This pattern holds true even if children are separated from their alcoholic parent[s] at birth"
means it has to do smthing with genes..
plus the tone of the answer choice is very mild.." partially determined"
d) yes one can infer tht but u cannot say for sure if the environment has a LITTLE/ A LOT/ MODERATE influence for sure ..
elimiate D
e) eliminate

ans C

The only contender for the above question are option (C) and (D)

(D) Repeation of what has already been said in the conclusion in different words, hence we may reject this option....

Thus (C) is the correct answer !!

Children of nonalcoholics do not become alcoholics. -- The statement only talks about the likelihood of alcoholism. We cannot firmly determine the behavior of children of non-alcoholics.
Fathers influence their children’s alcoholic tendencies more than mothers do. -- There is no discussion of gender based alcoholism.
A tendency toward alcoholism can be at least partially determined by genetics. -- Correct answer
Environment has little influence on alcoholism. -- Out of scope
Because it is inherited, alcoholism is difficult to treat. -- Out of scope.
