It is certainly A

B - "Reason" has to be followed by "that" instead of "because"
C- "where" incorrectly placed as a modifier
D - wrong idiomatic usage of 'due to'
E - alongwith cannot make the subject plural - 'are'. 'Is' has to be used here.

Hope this helps

It is A...

Rest either suffer from redundant addition or poor formation

All of you have it right. it's from 1000sc (came across in the error log so thought of sharing ).
POE is the way to go for this and there is no issue with parallelism between "low level leaking" and "routine discharge"

(B) distorts the meaning of the original sentence by saying that the reasons above are why offshore drilling is a hazard. It's making he claim that these are the main reasons which is outside the context of the original sentence.

(C) "offshore drilling, where" maybe you can use "where" when referring to the locations of offshore drilling, but this refers to the actual act of offshore drilling

(D) "due to the fact of" improper idiom, should be "due to the fact that"

(E) don't let the middle phrase confuse you, the subject is still chronic leaking, which is singular so the vet attached to it should be "is" not "are"

Hey, can you explain why there is no issue with parallelism with this?

I mean shouldn't it be low level leaking and routine discharging?

Leaking is used as gerund here, hence acts as a noun.

Both noun phrases "Chronic low-level leaking" and "the routine discharge" are parallel and relate to "drilling mud & mineral salts"

in gmat, it is true that test takers should avoid V-ing in CR questions as much as possible. Nevertheless, many questions still have the right answer containing V-ing
