Original sentence has ambigous pronoun "them". Same in B and C.
Correct ans must be D or E.
D has incorrect 'due to the fact'

Hence Ans E it is.

Wow, you are an absolute machine Vips. Thats exactly what the solution says.

But here to you is my question. I don't quite understand why "the leaders" can be ambiguous, but somehow, "the leadership" is not.

In fact, I narrowed down this question to A and E. and I actually saw the ambiguous word "them", but I chose A because in my opinion, it changed the meaning of the subject from "leaders" to "leadership" while not reducing any redundancy and in my opinion not addressing the issue of ambiguity.

Can't wait for your insight as always :)

The difference between the leaders and the leadership is that the leadership is singular while the leaders is plural. Thus no ambiguity with use of leadership,as we know what them refers to.

Hope it helps:)

hi,

Leadership is the action of leading a group of people. Or, the actual people who lead the group.
If you think you have leadership skills, you better be able to rally the troops and get the job done. Leadership can be the act of leading, or a name for the group of people doing the leading.

hope it helps

Nice Question.

Answer E, Official Solution Economist:
This answer choice corrects the original ambiguity mistake in a clever way. It retains the originally ambiguous pronoun them, but changes one of the plural nouns with which it agreed (leaders) to the singular leadership. The result is that them now agrees with one noun only - Churchgoers, so it is no longer ambiguous.

Tricky one.....narrowed down A and E...got correct.

The leadership (single) appeared better than the leaders(plural)...but both are nouns..

The them at the end doesn't convey what it is being used for, Churchgoers or the leaders of the Human Genome Project. Hence changing the noun for Human Genome Project,i.e, Making it Singular by using leadership will chalk out that "them" in the end is for churchgoers.

"Due to the fact" is wordy, hence Choice E.

It should be E only.

In A, B and C, we have them that may refer to either the leaders or the churchgoers. Hence, ambiguous.

D and E resolves this mistake but since as per the argument, we need to provide the reason . Only E does that. Hence, the correct answer.

A. seems correct
B. changes the original sentence. In the centre is missing.
C. due to the fact that...is wordy compared to since
D. due to the fact that...is wordy compared to since
E. leadership....changes from original leaders.
