Hello -
Can you please evaluate my profile and if possible -evaluate my chances for Kellogg, Booth and Kelley (looking for Part-Time - Full time is also a possibility) based on my age and heavy engineering/technical background (especially Civil Engineering)

Age: 30 - Married
Country of Citizenship : India - US Green Card Holder

GMAT: First Attempt 680 - retaking GMAT in couple of months - Hoping for mid 700s (most likely will get that). Please evaluate based on a score of 680

Work Experience:
- Registered Professional Civil Engineer ( Licensed in WI); LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP) ( Both licenses are very valuable in the Engineering Industry)
- 6 years (not including Graduate School ) in the Civil/Environmental Engineering Consulting for the #1 Environmental Engineering Consulting Firm in USA (CH2M HILL). CH2M HILL Ranked Best Place to work for (Fortune 100- 4 times); Most Ethical Company (past 5 years), Fortune 500 Company; etc., etc.,
- Worked as Lead Design Engineer for several projects up to $50 MM fees, Asst Project Manager for projects up to $1 MM fees; lead engineer on the Winner of the Midwest's best water project; received several awards within the company.

- B.E in Civil Engineering. from College of Engineering, Guindy, Anna University (Ranked 6th in India (top 5 being IITs) and the oldest and one of the most reputed universities in India ). (GPA - 3.5)
- M.S in Civil/Environmental Engineering (GPA 3.94 ) from a well known US university (UI-C). Research assistant with full scholarship and Fellowship for the entire duration.

Extra-Curricular Activities:
- Executive member of my university student union - won critical elections/ lead campaign; Lead a team of Red Cross Volunteers to assist and contribute Tsunami affected victims.
- Vice President of the Society of Civil Engineers (most prestigious student body in South India) - successful in gathering sponsors (up to 1MM INR for the yearly technical conferences)
- involved in several professional organizations (Rotary Club, Leo Club) and student organizations within the university - (one of the reasons for the low GPA in my undergrad).
-Involved in UNICEF Fund, Save the Children Organizations, active blood donor and volunteer occasionally for food drives in South Chicago
- Heavily involved in trading Stocks, Options (Calls and Puts) – have pulled in 80% returns (P) this year. Manage investment funds for my retired in-laws.

MBA goal:
Interested in strategy, operations and marketing - with aim of going back to either large consulting firms (top 5) or Engineering/Construction Firms - I have noticed that there aren't many MBAs in/for this industry - will be my main selling point on why I need a MBA.

Will get excellent recommendations from my employer.

- Looking to join a part-time program. (Full time is a possibility !!!!)
- As my wife is pursuing PhD in Chicago - I am looking only at Kellogg / Booth (with Kelley as a distant option)
- If I get 700 plus in couple of months - will apply for Summer Quad (part-time) or R1 for Full time.

I would greatly appreciate if you can look into this and let me know your opinion - suggestions and possibilities (realistic)
Thank you!

Hi there,

Thanks for your post. In terms of GMAT score, you are pretty close/similar to the average scores at the part time programs at Booth/Kellogg, so I wouldn't say it's a huge concern, though on the flip side, the average scores of Indian engineers do tend to be quite high. ;) Your experience is solid, you would just want to ensure you focus on how you've demonstrated leadership in your lead-engineer roles, how you've worked with others, how you work within a team, etc, and you definitely want to clarify your goals some-- right now it could sound a bit scattered. Finally, you'll want to think about what makes you unique and stand out from other engineering applicants, since you may end up being compared to those most similar to you. Good luck and keep us posted on questions and your progress!
