Is this the MIT cover letter or a cover letter for a job?

You're welcome.

Please see MIT 2006 MBA Application.

To elaborate a little on what I wrote there. You want to highlight in the cover letter your distinctive qualifications, not the stuff you share with everyone else, while at the same time emphasizing your fit with MIT -- why MIT is the best school for you and vice versa.

BTW, Rod Garcia, admissions director at MIT, and Jon McLaughlin, asst, admissions director, will be taking questions at an Accepted.com online chat on November 15 at 10:00 AM PT/1:00 PM et.

Please feel free to join us.

Good luck!
