The problem with the original sentence is that "it" can only refer to India (the only singular noun in the first clause) and thus the sentence is totally illogical. India is not regarded as a holy creature, cows are. Thus the right answer choice needs to change the pronoun "it" in the second clause into the plural form "they." We have just eliminated two first answers. Answer D is redundant, we don't need the v-ing form "being". Moreover, the singular form "holy creature" does not match the plural pronoun "they." Answer E, finally, repeats the same mistake that we see in D. Moreover, the whole sentence is flawed because answer E does not include a conjugated verb and in the end our sentence consists of a clause and a fragment conjoined with "and."

Official Explanation

Answer C
- Here, any pronouns or nouns that refer to "Cows" must be in the plural form. This means that, in the original sentence, "it" and "creature" should be in plural form. Look for an answer choice that accomplishes this. A quick scan reveals that (C) is the only answer choice that does so. Therefore, (C) is the correct answer. Do read the whole sentence with (C) just to make sure.

Choices (A) and (B) incorrectly use the singular "it" to refer to the plural "Cows". (A), (D) and (E) incorrectly use the singular "a holy creature" to refer to the plural "Cows". Also, (E) creates a fragment. That leaves us with our correct answer, (C).
