this question if from Kaplan Premier 2010 edition, I am confuse why the answer choice D is correct:

Q: In Los Angeles, a political candidate who buys saturation radio advertising will get maximum name recognition.

The statement above logicaaly conveys whcih of the follwing:

a. ..
b..
c: Saturation Radio advertising reaches every demographically distinct sector of the voting population in Los Angeles.
d: For maximum name recognition, a candidate need not spend on media channels other than radio advertising.
e:..

according to my understanding C should be correct as to get maximum name recognition the radio should have better demographical coverage but in Kaplan answer sheet mention D is correct.

Can anybody explain, why?

If you post the complete question then that will be helpful. Moreover, this question is about Inference from facts on radio ads and max name recognition wrt expenses and in INFERENCE based questions you cannot bring outside info. This is what stated in D. See the edited parts below.

Q: In Los Angeles, a political candidate who buys saturation radio advertising will get maximum name recognition.

For maximum name recognition, a candidate need not spend on media channels other than radio advertising.

In C, new info is added which is not stated in the stimulus:
Saturation Radio advertising reaches every demographically distinct sector of the voting population in Los Angeles.

Please let me know if you still need some help.

yeah C you're making a stretch because you're connecting maximum name recognition to every demographic.
Does max name recognition have to come from every demographic? Not necessarily but in our heads we try to connect the two when we shouldn't

As the other dude said, C has a new assumption/connection..whereas answer D doesn't have that

(C) mentions EVERY demographic, compared to the original statements MAXIMUM name-recognition. It is entirely possible that there is an upper limit to name recognition, in which case the universal coverage in (C) would be not merely unnecessary, but also impossible.

If you can get it with radio advertising - everything is fine. So why spend on other media channels? If you get maximum name recognition via radio advertisments, there's no way to top that. You can't get more than the maximum. So each cent spent on other media channels is wasted. Hi Eli,

ah ok. I wanted to explain more exactly why (D) is right since dixitraghav didn't understand it. Anyway that was one year ago, so...

Btw: I'm working through the Kaplan GMAT book and it's fantastic! Especially the explanations are practical and straightforward without any annoying abstract reasonings!

Casualty lies in this question.

cause -----effect.
It's Must be true or we can say support the reasoning in above sentence.
We can support reasoning by following ways.
1-eliminate any other cause of the problem
2-when cause occur ,effect occur
3effect occur ,cause will occur.
4-eliminate the possibility of reverse reasoning
5-Data is accurate and no issue in reasoning.

in above reasoning author assuming the only possible one cause result in more name recognition.eliminate other causes,which can counter author reasoning.
