IMO C

The gels might be more effective because of the other ingredients such as citric acid; that is, the zinc gels' greater effectiveness might not have anything to do with zinc at all.

In that case, choice C clearly weakens the argument.

should be C.

conclusion: zin gel is more effective than zinc lozenges because gel is applied nasally where most of the cold viruses are.

to weaken this we have to show that zince gel's effectiveness is because of some other reason.

option C says that zinc lozenges have other ingredient such as citric acid which interferes with the chemical activity of zinc. And that is why zinc lozenges are less effective and zinc gel is more effective.

For this causality question, the approach to weaken "A causes B" is to point out "C causes B" or "B causes A".

C is the correct answer here.
it is the only plausable explanation that could cause zink to affect in a different manner.
