Between A and E.

A gives a possibility. Whereas, E removes that possibility altogether. Also, " Not only.. but" is acceptable.

In my opinion A.

Choice A vs E

Not Only "x" But Also "y"
&
Not Only "x" But "y"

Are both correct idiomatic usage, provided x and y are logically and structurally parallel.

X and y in both choices are in form of predicates (verb phrases), but Choice E changes the intended meaning of Original sentence by converting an ability 'can create' to a fact 'creates'.

So, IMO, Ans should be A

Hello SajjitaKundu,
This is a question of Parallelism and Correct Idiom.
Correct Idiom is - "Not Only......, but also....".
Again we need parallel structure.
In option A, we have both types of errors, but option E corrects both things.

Hope it helps.

D. not only causes inflammation and ulcers but also creates an amount

E. not only causes ulcers and inflammation but also creates a number

Answer IMO is E

A. not only causes inflammation and ulcers but can create a number
-> "Not only ... But..." acceptable structure but verbs "causes" and "can create" not parallel in the idiomatic structure.

B. not only causes inflammation and ulcers but also a number
-> verb missing after but also

C. causes inflammation and ulcers but also can create a number
-> "Not only ... But also ..." required as per the meaning

D. not only causes inflammation and ulcers but also creates an amount
-> "Amount" usage is wrong. "Number" is used when noun countable

E. not only causes ulcers and inflammation but also creates a number
-> Correct || "Correct Idiom usage -> Not only... But also..." || Verbs "causes" and "creates" are parallel
