Hi, I have admits to both schools and need to make my decision soon. Here's what I have influencing my decision so far:

- Degroote has been around for many years and has an impressive list of partners. Lazaridis apparently has great placements too but it's hard to find any info online for it.

- Degroote is 28 months and 47K with 2K scholarship while Lazaridis is 20 months and 37K with 5K scholarship.

- Lazaridis average salary afterwards is 72K, Degroote is 69K. Why stay in a school for 8 months longer if the end result is a similar looking salary? I'm already at an age where I don't want to do too much more schooling, I just want to get into the workforce.

- Degroote is closer to Toronto, so I can commute or I can rent, but if I go to Waterloo for Lazaridis it has to be rent.

Overall I'd love to hear from real graduates from the two schools, what did you like/not like?

Congrats on your admits. I am not a grad of either of these schools but I never heard of Lazaridis.... perhaps they renamed a program recently?

Hello Fomorian

Congratulations are in order first.

I did research of all existing Canadian Universities for my own purpose, so I am very familiar with DeGroote School of Business/McMaster University and Wilfrid Laurier University/Lazaridis.

Though there are not that many Canadian as US Universities, not even close, which I also scanned in full (with AACSB Business School Accreditation exclusively) believe it or not, but that is another story.

You will not find many people here who did that I am sure. :geek:

DeGroote is obviously better known and better ranked school.

If we use your Canadian rankings, Ranked by Reputation DeGroote comes as 9. in Canada, there is no Lazaridis in top 10.

https://www.canadianbusiness.com/lists- ... g/image/3/

It also says it is Full-Time Program Length: 16–28 months duration.

You may explore in more details this 16+ months option, since this is your prime concern, duration of the program.

There is also Accelerated program length: 8 months, for 37,300 CAD.

You can start getting work experience after only 4 months in the Co-op program.

Average Co-op Earnings Over 3 Work Terms is $46,017 and Average Starting Salary for Co-op Graduates is $71,930.

Full time is 20 Months (or 16 Months).

Canadian esteemed Maclean's has even more respect for DeGroote versus Lazaridis, by placing DeGroote/McMaster tied on 8. place juxtaposed with Lazaridis/Wilfrid Laurier on last 20. place in Best Universities for Business in Canada: 2018 Ranking:

Further rankings in favor of DegGroote can be found here :

DeGroote’s MBA is differentiated from those of other Canadian business schools by its focus on experiential learning, and the possibility to specialize in health services management. The institution is ranked in the top 200 institutions in the world, within the 151-200th bracket, and ninth in Canada. It ranks sixth for entrepreneurship and alumni outcomes, eighth for thought leadership and ninth for diversity.

Lazaridis does have MBA option in Toronto campus, part time, accelerated and dual degree, but you didn't mention that, so I will not go into details.

https://find-mba.com/schools/canada/tor ... #part-time

Furthermore, median post MBA salary from DeGroote was reported to be from C$75,000 to C$97,000, depending on specialization.

For Lazaridis MBA they range from C$67,500 to C$86,050, again depending on MBA specialization.

Cost of living is also more affordable in Hamilton, ON than in Waterloo, ON.

I have left all figures in C$, for you to look :)

DeGroote School of Business is 1h from Toronto, so that is another plus.

All in all, with all facts presented, and all possible MBA options available, you should clearly go to DeGroote.

I would, if I was in your place.

I already gave my acceptance to DeGroote but I'm glad that you laid it out so succinctly and backed it up with sources. Ultimately I came to the same decision, ranking is either slightly higher or greatly higher, and the program is well established, almost 50 years is no joke. If nothing else, this post made me feel really good about my decision, so thanks!
