Dengue fever is a viral infection transmitted by the Aedes mosquito, whereas malaria is a parasitic infection transmitted by the Anopheles mosquito. Since both types of mosquito are prevalent on Nicaragua’s “Mosquito Coast,” anyone with a compromised immune system should not travel to this region, particularly during the rainy season.

All of the following, if true, strengthen the argument EXCEPT:

(A) Medicines taken to prevent or treat malaria can cause serious health complications for people with weak immune systems.
(B) The Nicaraguan government is trying to reduce the number of mosquitoes on the Mosquito Coast.
(C) A compromised immune system has difficulty fighting either viral or parasitic infections.
(D) During the rainy season, the populations of both Aedes and Anopheles mosquitoes multiply in the Mosquito Coast.
(E) The most effective chemical insect repellent has been shown to cause brain damage upon repeated application to the skin.

+1 for B.

Stimulus :
Since two types of mosquitoes that are main cause of malaria are prevalent on Nicaragua’s “Mosquito Coast,” anyone with a compromised immune system should not travel to this region, particularly during the rainy season.

(A) Medicines taken to prevent or treat malaria can cause serious health complications for people with weak immune systems. --> Strengthens
(B) The Nicaraguan government is trying to reduce the number of mosquitoes on the Mosquito Coast. --> Correct, if a new effort is being made by the government so as to evade the infliction of malaria then there is a subtle probability that the conclusion may not be true
(C) A compromised immune system has difficulty fighting either viral or parasitic infections. --> Strengthens
(D) During the rainy season, the populations of both Aedes and Anopheles mosquitoes multiply in the Mosquito Coast. --> Strengthens
(E) The most effective chemical insect repellent has been shown to cause brain damage upon repeated application to the skin. --> Strengthens

Hence, B.

(A) Medicines taken to prevent or treat malaria can cause serious health complications for people with weak immune systems.
- Strengthens
(B) The Nicaraguan government is trying to reduce the number of mosquitoes on the Mosquito Coast.
- Strengthens (The government is trying to reduce the number of mosquitoe, this tells us that there are definitely a huge number of mosquitoes on the cost and hence not safe)
(C) A compromised immune system has difficulty fighting either viral or parasitic infections.
- Strengthens
(D) During the rainy season, the populations of both Aedes and Anopheles mosquitoes multiply in the Mosquito Coast.
-Strengthens
(E) The most effective chemical insect repellent has been shown to cause brain damage upon repeated application to the skin.
- Irrelevant ( Doesn't strengthen) This talks about some random insect repellent.

IMO it's E.

My Take E.

E does not talk about compromised immune system and travelling

All of the following, if true, strengthen the argument EXCEPT:

(A) Medicines taken to prevent or treat malaria can cause serious health complications for people with weak immune systems.-Strengthens

(B) The Nicaraguan government is trying to reduce the number of mosquitoes on the Mosquito Coast.- Neutral/weaken - less mosquitos - person can ravel to Nicaragua’s “Mosquito Coast

(C) A compromised immune system has difficulty fighting either viral or parasitic infections.- So don't travel in Nicaragua’s “Mosquito Coast- Strengthens

(D) During the rainy season, the populations of both Aedes and Anopheles mosquitoes multiply in the Mosquito Coast. -More mosquito not good for person with poor immune system- Strengthens

(E) The most effective chemical insect repellent has been shown to cause brain damage upon repeated application to the skin.- Strengthens
