I'm kinda shocked, but I think it was all a bad interview... I'll be prepared for next time.

I'm so sorry to hear that swgotz, I was impressed when I met you and felt that you knew the school so incredibly well had to be a slam dunk.

Mark, I don't know what to say, I really hoped you'd get in. I also thought you were a slam dunk.

For both of you, I am truly at a loss for words, all I can say is this - if the regression I did on admissions411 shows anything - it shows that this entire process is highly subjective and subject to a million variables. Your denial at Cornell I don't think, has any bearing on your overall competitiveness at other schools, so don't take this as a setback.

I'd urge you to reach out to your interviewer and see if you cant get some candid feedback from them. Also try the admissions office, but give them a few days.

As always, I am here to help, and if you want assistance with any R2s, I'm happy to prioritize the two of you ahead of others I've been helping as I feel a personal connection with both of you. I'm no expert by any means, but any help I can offer, please feel free to ask.

Remember what I said six months ago about my GMAT: "I may have lost the battle, but I'm going to win the war." I did, and so will you.

Thanks for the encouragement Rhyme & Hjort. I always knew this was possible.

I'm evaluating options, there are a few other M.S. programs @ Cornell I'm interested in and then could apply to the 1 year TMO.

I'd consider other 2 year MBA programs, but I'd want a program with the same type of collegial environment. Anyone have any suggestions???

-Steve

I thought you were interested in Dartmouth as well.

If you guys would like to suggest a few schools for someone of my profile that would be great...

3.5 GPA from Tufts U
680 GMAT but somewhat low on the Quant side... highest quant 42, highest verbal 45... Too bad I didn't get them on the same test and we'd be talking 700... Passed CFA L1 and hope this compensates a bit for quant
BA History, MA Education
Current Role: Brokerage with Fidelity, several leadership awards and good stories
From an "economically disadvantaged background"

I want to go into securities analysis/investment management...

I am applying to Tuck. I thought my interview went fantastically well there. I am interested in finance but I want to got to a school somewhat keeping with my statistics. Kelly and Notre Dame and schools like that send me stuff all the time and I am sure would love someone of my stats, but if I could I would like at least top 20. And as you know Ryme... I'm definately a good writer... I don't think essays are a problem. After all... Cornell wanted to interview me like a week after submitting.

Any help Hjort and Ryme or anyone else would be fantastic!

I really do like Tuck's program, however I'm not sure my wife would be able to easily find a job around there.

Sorry to hear the news, but keep up the good fight, there's still ample time for R2 submissions. I myself haven't started a single essay yet.

Maybe you should apply to Stern and/or Darden. They seem suitable.

Wow Mark - you have a solid profile - I am actually surprised you were not accepted. Makes me think my chances might not be so hot - but as we have all seen this is a VERY subjective process. I have no doubt you will get in to a top 20 program, you may even get into a better school then Cornell. Keep your head up and keep posting with us and I am sure you will have good news soon.

I am waiting on Yale too - did you get an interview yet? I believe the interview is the key to the deal if you get invited (at Yale or any other school). Best of luck.

Georgetown seems like an up and coming school to me. They've recently jumped in the ratings and will have a huge new building dedicated to business slated for finish in Spring 2008.

I'm in a certificate program there now and absolutely love it. Luckily, it's the same professors as the MBA program so I think it's a good preview of the program. Go ahead and PM me if you would like any more info. I'm really impressed by it and will applying there next season.
