Hi,

I gave my gmat exam today! Am very disappointed and depressed with the result! I was shocked to see the result on my screen. It was 590 (V 25, Q 47)(when I thought quant is going really well, but got this, wow) , I have never scored this low in any of the mocks, not even manhattan! I was targeting at least a 680 and focusing on ISB. But now I feel like giving up on this dream. Its a heartbreaking score making me doubt on my capabilities and capacities.

Regards,
N

Hi,

Don't get devastated. You are not alone. People have scored less than your score in the first attempt and later they able to score 700+. There are several examples on the forum.

https://gmatclub.com/forum/my-journey-f ... 05143.html

Take a break and start afresh. You may want to order ESR for detailed analysis.

Thanks.

Hi Neha,

You posted this in a couple of different forums, so I've pasted my response over from the other thread:

I'm sorry to hear that Test Day didn't go as well as hoped. Based on some of the things that you described (over the last several days) in this thread...

https://gmatclub.com/forum/gmat-books-2 ... l#p1893205

...You were getting a significant number of questions wrong because of silly/little mistakes - so I have to assume that that's what happened on Test Day too. GMAC has publicly stated that the Official Score that you earn on Test Day is within +/- 30 points of actual ability. Assuming a similar 'swing' in how your CATs function, your various score results point to a general ability level in the low-600s (with a 'low end' of about 590 and a 'high end' of about 640).

Given your score goal and first-choice School, a retest will be a 'must.' Unfortunately, it's going to take some significant time to raise this 590 up to a 700 - likely at least another 2 months of consistent, guided study. There's no reason to give up on any of this though; an MBA is almost certainly worth all the effort that you'll have to put in to achieve it - and this is just one 'stumbling block' that you CAN train to get past.

1) What are the Round 1 and Round 2 application deadlines for ISB?
2) Are there any other Schools that interest you?

Rich

Hi Neha

Please don't tie your self-worth to any exam score. Scoring lower than you expectations hardly means that you aren't capable of a 700. For the most part, it might be the exam day stress that was the cause for your 590. Take a few days off, and introspect what went wrong. Focus on verbal more this time around. And to guage your prep levels- take all the 6 exams of GMAT Prep (2 free and 4 paid). And take the next exam when you have scored your target score( or at least close to it) in the Gmat Prep mocks.

All the best and Cheer up. :)

Hi Neha,

Could you share some details about your prep? How long did you prepare for? What resources/books/courses did you use? What were your mock test scores and what was the breakdown?

That will help us give you better advice.

I took the exam today and I canceled my score. I prepared really hard for whole July after I scored 560 on my first exam and today I got even lower. I was pretty confident that I would get better score beacuase I got 650 on GMAT prep exam two weeks ago. During the exam, I also thought I was acing my quant since most of the time I was putting effort to improve Quant. I'm pretty disappointed but we can always put more effort and beat this tiring exam.

Hey,

My mock stats:
Gmat prep 1: 620 July 2017 without studying
GMAT prep 2: 630 taken on Nov 2016
GMAT prep 1 retake: 720 taken on Dec 2016
GMAT PREP 3 is 640, Quant 49, Verbal 29
GMAT PREP 4 is 620, Quant 45, Verbal 28
Manhattan tests:
CAT EXAM #1 Completed in dec 2016Score: 660
CAT EXAM #4 Completed 07/22/2017 Score: 620, Quant 41 Verbal 34
CAT EXAM #3 Completed 07/21/2017 Score: 640 Quant 43 Verbal 34
CAT EXAM #2 Completed 07/02/2017 Score: 640 Quant 44 Verbal 34

I didn't prepare in a continuous period, whatever I studied I did it in 2016. Bits and pieces I studied in 2017, but didn't do any practice questions. Had exhausted jamboree question bank and OG 2016 in 2016. I guess that was my fault! Also, the materials I used:

Manhattan numbers
Manhattan SC
Manhattan CR - disappointing, didn't find it helpful at all
Official Guide 2016
Jamboree material

I hope this will do. Let me know if you need any other info.

Thanks
N
