I scored a 730 96%, but I scored in the 98% for verbal. Are there any schools or programs that place additional weight on high(er) verbal scores?

I don't think schools look for high verbal scores, but your total gmat score is skewed to weigh the verbal more heavily.

Do you think that means they generally ignore the total score and just look at the individual quant component?

Not at all. I think you guys are making too big a deal out of all of this. If you get into the 700 range, you should be fine. They won't nitpick the minutiae until you've made the final rounds.

Check out Nervousgmat for an excellent example of what you can do with a high verbal and a so so quant section...but overall strong (700+) score

The more interesting, compelling, or humorous you message the more likely I am to respond.

I got into HBS with a skewed GMAT score: 46 (79%) quant and 46 (99%) verbal, 740 total. I strongly believe that schools will look at your application holistically; if you can demonstrate quantitative abilities elsewhere - work experience, undergrad courses, etc - it's not going to hold you back.
