Statement 1:

If ax=5, then x has to be zero to satisfy the equation.

If x=0, then ax cannot be 5.

So LHS is not equal to RHS

Sufficient

Statement 2:

Insufficient

(1) ax = 5
(2) x = 1

(1) if ax=5 then in RHS 5-x ,x must be 0
but it contradicts as ax=5, so X must be any number---->ax = 5 – x-------NO
......sufficient

(2) if a=4 ,x=1 then ax = 5 – x(4=4)------>Yes
if a=5,x=1 then ax = 5 – x (5=4)----------->No------->not suff..

Yes/No Question:
ax = 5 - x?
a = (5-x)/x?
a = (5/x) - 1?

(1) ax = 5
a = 5/x
Plug into stem, 5/x = 5/x - 1?
Subtract 5/x, 0 = -1?
Definite no, sufficient

(2) x = 1
Plug into stem, a = 5/1 - 1?
a = 4?
No new info about a in relation to x, insufficient
