This may already be covered somewhere here, but i've heard from a few different sources that the length of the AWA essays are very important. Can anyone confirm this, and if so, how many words should you go for?

Length of the essay is not an explicit factor, although obviously essays that are too short to really develop a viewpoint on an issue will be penalized.

The key therefore is to create an essay which can hold forth a clear argument, and not look at it in terms of words. As for the absolute minimum, I would guess nothing short of 300 words would anyway make too much sense, so that can be a benchmark.
