Guys,
I took the test today and managed to get 730 (V40 Q 49). This is the first time I took GMAT.
First things first, Thanks to this great community, without your help I would have never got a 40 in verbal
Background: 29 yr old with bachelors from India and a masters in EE from US. Working for the past 5 yrs as an electrical engineer.
I was planning to give this test for a while but never really got the motivation. I found GMAT club in June of this year (thanks to Google) and started my prep.
I concentrated more on verbal as my math skills are ok. I used the following resources apart from GMAT club
OG guide 10th edition
Kaplan verbal workout
MGMAT SC guide-very good book to improve sc skills. My hit rate in
OG improved from 60% to 85-90% after using this book.
SC 1000-very good. Completed all 1000 questions
CR 1000- managed to complete half
AWA template-ARCO
My test was at 11:30 am. Got up early after a 6 hr sleep and reviewed AWA template from ARCO.
AWA was pretty straight forward.. one was about balancing family and personal life and the other was about loan approval to some ice cream store. Used template for both and took 5 min break.
Quant; Started with fairly easy questions and after 7 or 8 question.. started getting hard bin questions. Lost timing on one fairly easy PS question and spent about 6 min but finally got the answer. Overall got about 2 perm & comb and 2 prob. Completed on time and took a short break.
Verbal. Started with 4 SC questions; 2 CR’s and 45 line RC and then CR & SC combinations. Lost my timing again one 80 line RC at around 17 question. Barely managed to complete on time.
My practice test scores:
Kaplan Web Free Test: 710
PP 1: 750
PP2: 750
Gmat Prep 1: 720
Gmat Prep 2: 720
