Doug and Dave shared a pizza with 8 equally-sized slices. Doug wanted a plain pizza, but Dave wanted anchovies on half the pizza. The cost of a plain pizza was 8 dollars, and there was an additional cost of 2 dollars for putting anchovies on one half. Dave ate all the slices of anchovy pizza and one plain slice. Doug ate the remainder. Each paid for what he had eaten. How many more dollars did Dave pay than Doug?

(A) 1
(B) 2
(C) 3

(E) 5

I think the answer should be C.

There are 8 pizza slices.
The cost of the total pizza is $8 (for whole plain pizza)+$2 (for anchovies on half) = $10.00

Cost per slice =\(\frac{$10.00}{8}\) = $1.25

Dave had 5 slices - $1.25*5 = $6.25
Doug had the remaining 3 slices - $1.25*3 = $3.75

Difference is $6.25-$3.75 = $2.50. This answer when rounded is closest to C.

The cost of the pizza is 8 + 2 = $10. The cost of the plain half is 8/2 = $4; thus, the cost of the anchovy half is $6. Therefore, each plain slice is 4/4 = $1. Since Dave ate all the anchovy slices and one plain slice, he ate 6 + 1 = $7 worth of the pizza. So Doug ate 10 - 7 = $3 worth of the pizza. The difference is $4.
