Is x > y ? or in other words is \(x - y < 0\)

IMO E.

i) \(x + y <0\) Does not give any info about what \(x-y\) could be. Not sufficient

ii) \(x + |y| <-1\)

if y is positive the above statement is : \(x + y < -1\) Again not sufficient to determine anything about \(x-y\)

if y is negative the above statement is : \(x - y < -1\) Sufficient to say that \(x - y > 0\) is not true but we do not know if y is negative and hence INSUFFICIENT

Putting i) and ii) together does not help determine whether y is negative or not and hence INSUFFICIENT

Hence answer choice (E) is correct.
