(A) is incorrect because it uses "like" to introduce the examples of the guest performers (John Lennon, Peter Sellers). When introducing examples, the word "like" should be replaced by the more appropriate "such as".

Both (B) and (C) are wrong because these choices are grammatically incorrect. In the GMAT, "but also" must be complemented by "not only".

(D) is the CORRECT ANSWER, because it corrects the original mistake by replacing "like" with the more appropriate "such as". It also makes correct use of the structure not only...but also.

(E) has parallelism error. In this choice, not only is followed by the Past Simple verb "wrote", whereas but also is followed by the noun "the show's presentation".

FINAL ANSWER IS (D)

NOTES: idiom must be parallel, "not only WROTE [v]…but also PRESENTED [v]"; to present examples we must use "such as".

OFFICIAL EXPLANATION

Dudley Moore and Peter Cook not only wrote the 1960s BBC comedy "Not only...But also" but also presented the show, along with contributing guests like John Lennon and Peter Sellers.

A. not only wrote the 1960s BBC comedy "Not only...But also" but also presented the show, along with contributing guests like

Incorrect.

This answer choice is stylistically flawed as it uses like to introduce the examples of the guest performers (John Lennon, Peter Sellers). When introducing examples, the word like should be replaced by the more appropriate such as.

B. wrote the 1960s BBC comedy "Not only...But also" but also presented the show, along with contributing guests such as

Incorrect.

Although this answer choice corrects the original stylistic mistake by replacing like with such as, it is grammatically incorrect. In the GMAT, but also must be complemented by not only.

What helps us identify this question as a Parallelism question as well as identify the mistake is the following Stop Sign: not only... but also...

C. not only wrote the 1960s BBC comedy "Not only...But also" but presented it too, along with contributing guests such as

Incorrect.

Although this answer choice corrects the original stylistic mistake by replacing like with such as, it is grammatically incorrect. In the GMAT, not only must be complemented by but also.

D. not only wrote the 1960s BBC comedy "Not only...But also" but also presented the show, along with contributing guests such as

This answer choice corrects the original stylistic mistake by replacing like with the more appropriate such as. It also makes correct use of the structure not only...but also.

E. not only wrote the 1960s BBC comedy "Not only...But also" but also the show's presentation, along with contributing guests such as[/quote]

Incorrect.

Although this answer choice corrects the original stylistic mistake by replacing like with such as, it is still grammatically incorrect. The same part of speech that follows not only should follow but also. However, not only is followed by the Past Simple verb wrote, whereas but also is followed by the noun the show's presentation.
