Hello all,
New to the forum, long time stalker. I really didnt have much to contribute before =)

I got my acceptance from Fuqua 15 days ago (EA applicant). The rankings imo are not so important. Although cliqued, I really feel that the school must appeal to you (what people refer to as fit). It must excite you to have the best experience.

Ever since some schools have started releasing decisions it's like I've become a decision junkie and I need to find a decision fix. Yesterday I was trolling the Booth page, I didn't even consider applying to Booth! I have no clue how I will handle waiting three more weeks for Duke! Granted the holidays will definitely help, but it seems so far away! Ha, so sad.

I've already paid my deposit to Duke and I still troll other pages on admission days...the decision anxiety still haunts me!

hell, I still troll on the decision days, and I'm done with b-school.

I just forgot decisions were being released today for about five minutes, a record for me! These next few hours of anticipation are going to be brutal.

So, will we get a call or email?

Typically late in the afternoon?

good luck to all.

I think it would be an email notification first and a following call later if get admitted

If it follows how EA decisions were sent out, you should get an email around 3:30pm EST. You'll have to log in to the Duke application portal (as if the wait wasn't long enough) and your decision letter will be posted there. You'll get a call or email from your interviewer and Fuqua buddy in the following days. They try to pair you up with a Fuqua buddy based on prior work experience, geography, or future interests.

lol...same here. I guess we will see other at Johnson then?

Looks like it, pffftttt who needs shooters when you have great hiking and 30 feet of snow...

Ha, Ithaca will be a good time, this stings but its nice to know we have something great to look forward to.

You've probably seen this already, but Johnson is making a charge up the P&Q Top 100 list. Maybe it will be up to #10 by the time you get there next fall!

Either way, I still feel happy and satisfied, knowing how many people out there are still struggling to get accepted anywhere. I had a great feeling about Duke. My interview went really well and don't feel my background raised any flags. But eventually I may not be a good fit based on the school's decision, either from career interest (I am finance-focused) or anything else. I now cherish and appreciate Johnson's faith in me and I will remember everyday that top schools only open doors but does not grant admission to a good career. I have learned this lesson well from being a Stanford undergrad, knowing only very a few percentage of the class get job offers from top employers and receive generous compensation. I guess wherever you are, work hard and learn as much as possible. Congrats to all who got accepted! Some things are just meant to be.

Bummed my interview was waived at Kellogg, thankful to be invited to interview at Fuqua.

Here's a good list of questions from last years forums, with additions at the end from Professor X from earlier in this thread who interviewed during the open interview period.

1. How would you explain your job to a 5 year old?
2. Walk me through your resume
4. Why MBA?
5. Why Fuqua? And how did you choose Fuqua?
6. Apart from Team work and friendly students, what else is important to you.
7. What do you plan to do when you are at Fuqua?
8. How can you contribute to Fuqua?
9. What will you do if MBA does not exist?
10. What are your strengths and weaknesses?
11. Have you quit anytime?
12. Have you regretted your decision anytime?
13. What is the biggest risk you have taken so far?
14. Have you faced an ethical dilemma in your career?
15. If you have to explain yourself in one word what will be the one word?
16. If you can choose a team of 5, who will you choose?
17. If your story is written as a book, what will be title?
18. How do you resolve conflict?
19. What will you do if you have nothing to do for a whole day?
20. Have you felt sometime that it is better to be led than lead?
21. What is the difference between Leader and Manager?
22. How do you define a leader of Consequences?
23. How do you define diversity?
24. How do you prove feedback?
25. Do you have anything to add?
26. What are your short term and long term goals?
27. How are you and Fuqua a proper fit for each other?
29. What does "leader of consequence" mean to you?

2. Why pursue an MBA now?
3. Why Fuqua?
4. Tell me about a time you had a conflict with your manager and how you resolved it?
5. What would your friends say are your greatest strengths? Name 3?
6. What is your greatest weakness?
7. A few questions specifically related to my resume....was interested in my study abroad experience and also my dancing experience (I do hip hop & bhangra fusion)

Good luck everyone.

Not Invited! Can't figure out why??? This process is such a black box! I guess we wud never know.

All the best to those invited.

I wouldn't worry about it. When I went to visit the school the adcon told me they interview people that they like but aren't quite sure about. They might already be sure about you!

I'm a bit skeptical about this... Since Duke truly is driven by fit, I cannot imagine they would accept anyone without an interview(maybe some extreme exception). I have always heard the exact opposite from Fuqua. I'm almost positive that they invite applicants that they are interested in, and use the interview as a way to make sure they would fit, and that their story translates. To those that have not been invited, I think the best case scenario now is to be waitlisted without interview.

There is even a section on the waitlist FAQ

I was waitlisted for an interview. What should I do?

I have no clue to how common a waitlist without interview is, but there is still hope.

They contacted my recommender back in December, which was around when they began the background check. They called only one of my recommenders, which was my Direct Supervisor, and since she wasn't there to pick up, Re Vera sent her an email with a few simple questions. My company's HR department doesn't deal directly with ReVera or any 3rd party companies performing background checks. Instead, they tell them to go to http://www.verifyjob.com, and if ReVera has any further questions, they can fax our HR department. The only time ReVera contacted me was when they needed information to access http://www.verifyjob.com, but that's about it.

No I haven't taken any meds yet. I think I will start taking them, just for the exam. I grew up in North Africa where ADHD is not known, and people usually call it laziness. Thanks for the response.

Just some advice, if you're going to take meds for the test, take all of your practice test under the same conditions... Everyone reacts differently to them, and you may end up with an adverse reaction. Good luck!

Sorry to sound like an ass but standardized tests should be just that. I don't think it's fair to get extra time, everyone could do significantly better with extra time. Special accommodations defeats the point of a standardize test

Lets not turn this thread into this debate.

In!!! International applicant here. Got an email from Fuqua Admissions re: a status update and my heartbeat just went through the roof. Currently assigned out of my home country, so they couldn't reach me on the phone number that I provided on my application since I'm not using it overseas.

Congrats to all admits! I hope I can make it to BDW (very unlikely given the pace of my project).

I have a quick point to make. Quite a few of those waitlisted or dinged are expressing sentiments that I think, though understandable given the circumstances, are not necessarily kosher. Everyone admitted had to go through the same steps as those who didn't make the cut - money, time, sleepless nights, etc. Ideally, we enter this process knowing that nothing is guaranteed, because each spot is fought for by several talented applicants - I thus find it hard to understand why some dinged applicants say "I was expecting an admit." No way, Jose. No one should EXPECT an admit, no matter how fantastic your interview or stats were. Would you say the same if you were applying to HSW. Don't forget that many of the same kids apply to the same top ten schools, so it's not realistic to apply to a competitive school like Fuqua and EXPECT an admit, just because you had to spend money to buy to tickets and accommodation. Come on, guys...lets be fair to the hardworking admisson committees and the rigorous admission process.

MBA application can be a really humbling experience and the earlier you approach it with a fair amount of grounding/respect/moderate expectation, the more pleasantly surprising you would find the experience.

All the best to everyone though out the remainder of the app process.

I don't know if you were referring to my comment bc I said getting dinged w/out an interview is in some ways better than getting dinged with an interview bc it cost me a lot to go out there and interview, but if you are I think you need to realize that I was in no way implying that people who got in didn't make huge sacrifices as well and if someone says they were expecting an admit and didn't get one, who cares? People are disappointed and just sharing their thoughts. Get over it

+1. Any R1 admits with scholarship care to share their experience whether it took the whole 2 weeks before we hear anything about scholarship?

I received a scholarship phone call from an ad-com member 3-4 days after getting accepted. She told me the amount, and it was later confirmed in a paper inside the welcome package sent to everyone.
