Duke MBA - Calculus

OK. So I was admitted to Duke for MBA program. Very happy. :)
However they asked me to pass calculus course by 15th of July at an accredited institution?
Now, I am an international and I suppose I would have to do it on-line?

Was anyone in similar situation and does anyone have a suggestion regarding institution?

I can't believe you got a 49 on quant and they asked you to take calculus.

Duke is notorious for it's calc requirement haha!

I think it's a good thing that they ask people to take a course pre-term since the quant skills tested on GMAT are not easily transferable to the math used in classes.

Some have met the requirement by taking UCLA Online Extension courses. Not sure how viable of an option that is since it's an actual class where you don't determine the pacing and there may be certain deadlines you have to meet for your program. Your best bet is to contact your admissions office and ask about the requirement for your specific program. I would hate to recommend a class here, have a person take it, and to find out later that it's insufficient to meet the requirement.

There is a huge difference between answering tricky geometry problems under a time pressure and understanding calculus. The GMAT math section doesn't test anything beyond high school level math courses. To me it makes sense if the person doesn't have a technical undergrad degree and didn't ever take calculus in college you would make them take a Calc class regardless of their quant score.

I think of calculus as high school math because I took it my senior year. ;)

This conversation makes me excited for MBA math. I assumed that the level on the GMAT was indicative of the quant requirements in most MBA programs. I assume it's pretty basic calculus though?

I don't know much about Yale's program but I'm sure it will be dependent on your coursework. I think a lot of it will be pretty basic math(think accounting or basic statistics) but if you want more technical classes they are there as well. Most schools seem to have courses in derivatives or options that will require some calculus. I'm not expecting to need to remember my classes on differential equations but I'm sure there will be some math intensive classes that I will want to take.
