Could you please comment on this one? I never try to learn any idiom and intsead try to go by the context and the meaning a particular phrase conveys.

On this one I chose E,
As a result of both X and Y , Z was made possible.

Why I discarded B- made possible by X and Y .here X and Y are non living things and hence I thought using "by" would convey that the action( making possible) was done by Einstein theory.

Please correct my understanding. Where did I go wrong? And is there a way to tackle this problem without looking at the idiom ?

Doesn't the article placement violate parallelism on 'B'?
Don't get me wrong, others have solid reasons for elimination, I just found it odd that B would keep the stray "the" or is that an acceptable practice?

'B' doesn't strictly follow Both X and Y; it follows Both X and the Y, which is usually a cause for concern on parallelism questions.

Am I missing something?

"made possible by" would convey the intended meaning appropriately. So it's between B and C.
"by both X and Y" in B is better than "by X and also + Y (noun)" in C.
Hence, B.
