Each of the sales people that were retained after the company was acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members are.

'Each' is correctly having singular verb 'is'.
'that' is referring to plural sales people, hence correctly followed by plural verb 'were retained'

A. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company was acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members are. --> SV agreement is maintained. "Each -- is"; "that -- were retained". Hence Correct.
B. Each of the salespeople that was retained after the company had been acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any other sales team member is. --> that (referring to plural salespeople) is followed by singular verb 'was retained'. SV agreement error. Incorrect.
C. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company had been acquired are more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members are. --> Each (always takes singular verb) is followed by plural verb 'are'. SV agreement error. Incorrect.
D. Each of the salespeople that was retained after the company was acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members is. --> Again SV agreement error. plural salespeople -- singular was retained. Incorrect.
E. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company was acquired are more likely to receive a promotion than any other sales team member are. --> SV agreement error. Each (always takes singular verb) is followed by plural verb 'are'. Incorrect.

A. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company was acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members are.
Sounds good.

B. Each of the salespeople that was retained after the company had been acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any other sales team member is.
Subject-verb agreement. 'that was' should be 'that were'.

C. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company had been acquired are more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members are.
Tense. 'had been' is unnecessary since there is already 'after' to show the sequence of the actions involved.

D. Each of the salespeople that was retained after the company was acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members is.
Same mistake as B. Subject-verb agreement.

E. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company was acquired are more likely to receive a promotion than any other sales team member are.
Compare A and E. The difference is 'any of the other sales team members are' VS 'any other sales team member are'. IMO, 'the' is necessary since this comparison is between sales team members in the company, not between those retained and any other sales team members, which certainly include sales team members from other companies.

First split: "that was" vs "that were":
"That" refers to "salespeople", which is plural, so "were" is the correct SV agreement choice --> B,D out.

Second split: "was acquired" vs "had been acquired"
unnecessary use of past perfect tense --> B,C out

Third Split: "is more" vs "are more"
the subject of the sentence is "each", which is singular, so "is" is the correct one --> C,E out

Fourth split:
"any of the other sales team members is" is incorrect SV agreement --> D out
"any other sales team member are" is incorrect SV agreement --> E out

Going vertically down the statement : First error spot is was/ were: As its sales people: So would be were: B,D are out :
left A,C,E :
Then comes had been in C which is wrong: use of had been is After " AFTER : which means action has already happened. So wrong usuage

Then left are A and E : Acquired is/ acquired are: As we talking about plural so A is out for using singular tense.

I choose vertical correction as whole statement is underlined which is easy to spot differences by this method

Each of the sales people that were retained after the company was acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members are.

A. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company was acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members are. - the use of "each one" means that we need singular verb, not "were"
B. Each of the salespeople that was retained after the company had been acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any other sales team member is. - "any other" means that we don't need to specify "sales team member". In this case we need THE OTHER.
C. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company had been acquired are more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members are. - the use of "each one" means that we need singular verb, not "were"
D. Each of the salespeople that was retained after the company was acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members is. - Correct
E. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company was acquired are more likely to receive a promotion than any other sales team member are. - the use of "each one" means that we need singular verb, not "were"

A) Looks good
B) Since salespeople is singular so "that was retained" is incorrect.
C) Each is singular "so are more likely" is incorrect
D) Any of plural should be followed by plural verb.
E) Any singular should be followed by singular verb.

Each of.... requires a singular verb so were is incorrect. Eliminates A, C and E.
Between B and D, I go with B, because "had been" clearly marks the order in which the two events 'salespeople retained' and 'company acquired' happened.

Each of is singular so singular ' was ' is correct over were option B & D ; option B has use of word had been acquired which makes the sentence awkward.
IMO D;

The correct answer is A because of the following reasons:
1. "Each of the salespeople" is a singular subject for that reason "is" is the correct verb.
2. The noun "Sales team members" is plural, so the verb should be "are".
3. "Any of the other" is comparing people with salespeople that is mentioned in the beginning of the sentence.

Original sentence: Each of the sales people that were retained after the company was acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members are.

As the noun phrase "each of the salespeople that..." is singular, any verb that follows the phrase should be in the singular. Option (C) and (E) both use the plural verb are, which does not agree with the singular noun phrase "each of the salespeople that...". Eliminate (C) and (E).

The noun phrase "each of the salespeople that was retained after ..." is nonsensical. If the noun salespeople were singular, there would be no need of the word "each." The noun salespeople is meant to be plural. Eliminate (B) and (D).

Therefore, choice (A) is the correct answer as it is grammatically correct and conveys the intended meaning properly.

Each of the sales people that were retained after the company was acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members are.

Error analysis:

Sales people that were, it is correct usage. Algo, each is matched with singular verb ''is'', so the sentence is correct as it is. Moreover, comparison "each" is than any of the other sales team members are is correct

So the sentence is correct as it is.

A. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company was acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members are.Correct
B. Each of the salespeople that was retained after the company had been acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any other sales team member is.Usage of that was + had been, incorrect
C. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company had been acquired are more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members are.each + are, incorrect
D. Each of the salespeople that was retained after the company was acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members is.Usage of that was, incorrect
E. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company was acquired are more likely to receive a promotion than any other sales team member are.each + are, incorrect

Each of the sales people that were retained after the company was acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members are.

we do not need past perfect and after together. This eliminates B and C
each of the salespeople is singular but usage of "salespeople that" makes it plural , hence it should be "were" . this eliminates D
Now each of the salespeople is more likely not are more likely.
Thus this leaves with A

A. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company was acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members are.
B. Each of the salespeople that was retained after the company had been acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any other sales team member is.
C. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company had been acquired are more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members are.
D. Each of the salespeople that was retained after the company was acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members is.
E. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company was acquired are more likely to receive a promotion than any other sales team member are.

Each of the sales people that were retained after the company was acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members are.

Splits:
1) was retained vs. were retained - Each is always singular even if it is followed by a plural subject. Hence was retained is correct.
2) had been acquired vs. was acquired - The company getting acquired was a past event prior to sales people being retained, hence past perfect tense, had been acquired is correct
3) other sales team members are vs. is - all choices except B have the S-V agreement messed up.

A. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company was acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members are.
B. Each of the salespeople that was retained after the company had been acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any other sales team member is Correct in terms of S-V agreement and verb tense.
C. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company had been acquired are more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members are.
D. Each of the salespeople that was retained after the company was acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members is.

A. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company was acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members are {Correct option}

B. Each of the salespeople that was retained after the company had been acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any other sales team member is. {That is modifying salespeople, hence we need were after 'that'.}

C. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company had been acquired are more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members are. {Each of salespeople is singular, hence we need 'is' in place of 'are'.}

D. Each of the salespeople that was retained after the company was acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members is. {That is modifying salespeople, hence we need were after 'that'. Each of the sales people that were retained after the company was acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members are.

POE As follows -

A. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company was acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members are.
There is subject verb error in the last clause.. Any[singular subject] of the sales team members are [plural verb]. This is incorrect.

B. Each of the salespeople that was retained after the company had been acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any other sales team member is.
We don't need past perfect tense to highlight the sequence of actions as we are already using 'After'. So 'After' + 'had been' is redundant.

C. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company had been acquired are more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members are.
Again Subject Verb error. Each [singular subject] of the salespeople.. are[plural verb] more likely..

D. Each of the salespeople that was retained after the company was acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members is.
This is correct.

E. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company was acquired are more likely to receive a promotion than any other sales team member are.
Subject Verb error as underlined.

E. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company was acquired are more likely to receive a promotion than any other sales team member are.

Here, Each of + Plural noun + Singular verb

Eliminate A, C, and E.

B) correct,it maintains parallelism, "Each of" with "Any of". "members" is in plural. Past perfect tense is used properly.
D) incorrect, as lack of parallelism and wrong usage of simple past.

So, the correct answer choice is (B)

A. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company was acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members are.-incorrect- "each" and "any" demand singular verbs. Also use of simple past (was acquired) for 2 related past events(acquisition & retention of salespeople) is wrong, instead "had been" should be used.
B. Each of the salespeople that was retained after the company had been acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any other sales team member is.-Correct- Verbs for "each" & "any" is singular(was & is respectively). Also use of "had been" is correct to denote a previous event in past of aquisition of company.
C. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company had been acquired are more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members are.-incorrect-Same as A. Even though it corrects the second error of simple past by replacing it with "had been", it is wrong beacuse of the use of plural verbs.
D. Each of the salespeople that was retained after the company was acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members is.-Incorrect-it corrects the singular verb usage but repaets the error of original sentence by using simple past for an earlier event(aquisition)
E. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company was acquired are more likely to receive a promotion than any other sales team member are.-Incorrect-on the account of usage of plural verbs for singular subject & simple past instead of "had been".
