IMO : C

"each" means you are talking about every one of a group, separately.

1) When used before a singular noun, "each" takes a singular verb.

2) When used after a plural subject, "each" takes a plural verb.

Each of the sales people that were retained after the company was acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members are.

A. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company was acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members are. is more likely is wrong subject verb agreement.
B. Each of the salespeople that was retained after the company had been acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any other sales team member is. that was retained si wrong subject verb agreement
C. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company had been acquired are more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members are. Correct subject-verb agreement and correct comparison.
D. Each of the salespeople that was retained after the company was acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members is. is more likely is again wrong subject verb agreement.
E. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company was acquired are more likely to receive a promotion than any other sales team member are.
Subject verb agreement is correct but the comparison between each sales team people and any other team member are is wrong.

When pronoun 'each' is used as a subject always take singular verbs.

So we can reject options A,C and E.

Between B and D, in B use of past perfect tense is unnecessary and incorrect.
Option D fixes this problem using simple past tense.

E

Pretty easy if notice the split between "any of the other sales team members" and "any other sales team member". The first phrase makes no sense, so A, C, D are out.

Below are my reasons to reject other options:

A. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company was acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members are.
Out because of above reason

B. Each of the salespeople that was retained after the company had been acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any other sales team member is.
"that was retained" is incorrect because that should refer to "salespeople" which is plural, so "that were" is better.

C. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company had been acquired are more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members are.
Out because of above reason

D. Each of the salespeople that was retained after the company was acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members is.
Out because of above reason

E. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company was acquired are more likely to receive a promotion than any other sales team member are.
Correct choice

With each we have to use singular

Comparison.is between one person and other or.members with other members

Competetion is between A and D

A uses had been ,which is not required ,was is more accurate

D it is.!!!

Each of the sales people that were retained after the company was acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members are.

So, phrase "each of" + N(plural) should be followed by singular verbs --> eliminate A and C because both sentences use relative clause "that WERE" instead of "that was" to modify "each of the salespeople".

Next, as the acquisition of the company took place BEFORE the retaining of salespeople --> the former is in past perfect present and the latter is in past simple. --> eliminate D and E.

Parallel in comparison: "... than ANY of the other sale team members IS."

Answer B satisfies all criteria above. So it's correct.

Both Each and any other requires singular pronoun . A,C,E eliminated.
Between B and D.

IMO D

A. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company was acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members are. - ”any of the other sales team members are” is wrong, it should be “any of the other sales team members is”, as “any” is singular form,

B. Each of the salespeople that was retained after the company had been acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any other sales team member is. - “had been” is not required here, as the time marker “after” is already present, so the use of “had been” seems redundant

C. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company had been acquired are more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members are. - Plural form “are’ cannot address singular “Each”. ”any of the other sales team members are” is wrong, it should be “is”, as “any” is singular form. Also “had been” is not required here, as the time marker “after” is already present, so the use of “had been” seems redundant

D. Each of the salespeople that was retained after the company was acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members is. - Correct

E. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company was acquired are more likely to receive a promotion than any other sales team member are. - Plural form “are’ cannot address singular “Each”. Also ”any other sales team member are” is wrong, it should be “any other sales team member is”, as “any” is singular form

The word "Each" is singular and it needs a singular verb such as "was"

A. Each... were... (Incorrect)
C. Each... were... (Incorrect)
E. Each... were... (Incorrect)

Thus, answer choice A,C and E were eliminated based on that.

"B" used wrong verb tense "had", thus Incorrect

Kudos encourages.

Each of the sales people that were retained after the company was acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members are.

"Each of the salespeople" is singular since "each" is going first. Thus A, C, and E are out.
Next, we have a tense question.
in D we have the wrong parallelism
And thus the best answer is B

A. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company was acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members are.
B. Each of the salespeople that was retained after the company had been acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any other sales team member is.
C. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company had been acquired are more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members are.
D. Each of the salespeople that was retained after the company was acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members is.
E. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company was acquired are more likely to receive a promotion than any other sales team member are.

Using POE to choose the best answer:

Each of the sales people that were retained after the company was acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members are.

A. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company was acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members are. - "were retained" is wrong as each of the salespeople means the singular verb form "was" will be used here. A is incorrect.
B. Each of the salespeople that was retained after the company had been acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any other sales team member is. - "Was" is correctly used instead of were, option alters the end from "any of the other sales team members are" to "any other sales team member is" is still correct verb form usage because member is singular here. B is looking like a good candidate and is being "retained"
C. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company had been acquired are more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members are. - The "were" problem resurfaces again, Let's lose C.
D. Each of the salespeople that was retained after the company was acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members is. - Was is correctly used before retained instead of were, this one is very similar to B except for the very subtle "is" at the end there, now it says that x is more likely to get y than any of the other members are, but uses is, the singular verb form instead, very sneaky!, we can eliminate D on this basis.
E. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company was acquired are more likely to receive a promotion than any other sales team member are. - The were is here again and lets just agree its wrong without getting into it all over again. We should use "is" instead of are at the end because sales team member is singular. Remove E

Quote:
Each of the sales people that were retained after the company was acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members are.

Let us analyze this Sentence Correction (SC) question, and try to identify which answer is correct:
A. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company was acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members are. - Here, the word "the" in boldface before "other" is redundant as it is spoken about other sales team members in general, not any particular team members. Even though it is accepted sometimes to use the word "any" with plural verbs, in ideal it would be better to use it with a singular mode verbs. Incorrect
B. Each of the salespeople that was retained after the company had been acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any other sales team member is. - Here, past perfect tense is correctly used as the company was acquired first, and then the salespeople were retained. In addition, here "other sales team members" is used correctly and does not carry additional "the" article. Correct
C. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company had been acquired are more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members are. - While this option might seem tempting, here "the" in boldface is used with the word "other" incorrectly. Incorrect
D. Each of the salespeople that was retained after the company was acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members is. - In this option, "the" in boldface is used with the word "other" incorrectly as in previous versions. Incorrect
E. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company was acquired are more likely to receive a promotion than any other sales team member are. - In this option, the word "are" in boldface actually refers to the word "each" and needs to be in singular form. Incorrect

A. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company was acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members are.Incorrect.Whenever in a sentence"each " is used ,it stresses on individual member in a group and verb I that of singular subject form.Hence verb should be "was".Also usage of "more likely than any of" is wrong."Than" should be immediately followed by the element of comparison. Also the verb "are" at the end is wrong. It should be "is" .

B. Each of the salespeople that was retained after the company had been acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any other sales team member is.Correct.All the error discussed above are corrected in this.

Each of the sales people that were retained after the company was acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members are.

(1) "Each of the salespeople" is singular. So A, C & D can be eliminated. (SVA error.)

A. Each of the sales people that were retained after the company was acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members are.

C. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company had been acquired are more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members are.

E. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company was acquired are more likely to receive a promotion than any other sales team member are.

Between B & D :

"had been acquired" is correct. Since both actions are from the past, for that we need past perfect tense to show which action happened first. So, B is the correct answer.

D. Each of the salespeople that was retained after the company was acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members is..........................Can be eliminated (Because of Tense error.)

B. Each of the salespeople that was retained after the company had been acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any other sales team member is......................Correct Answer.

A. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company was acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members are.
Sounds good.

B. Each of the salespeople that was retained after the company had been acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any other sales team member is.
Subject-verb agreement. 'that was' should be 'that were'.

C. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company had been acquired are more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members are.
Tense. 'had been' is unnecessary since there is already 'after' to show the sequence of the actions involved.

D. Each of the salespeople that was retained after the company was acquired is more likely to receive a promotion than any of the other sales team members is.
Same mistake as B. Subject-verb agreement.

E. Each of the salespeople that were retained after the company was acquired are more likely to receive a promotion than any other sales team member are.
Compare A and E. The difference is 'any of the other sales team members are' VS 'any other sales team member are'. IMO, 'the' is necessary since this comparison is between sales team members in the company, not between those retained and any other sales team members, which certainly include sales team members from other companies.
