Look at sentence specially non underlined part, it will always help to eliminate few options

Like in this sentence : started with Each year and annually (Redundant )

Left with now D and E , here we are talking how company can save in D it says in employee illness (wrong )

(D) in employee illness prevention and gain as much as \$200 billion through improving performance of workers if they simply provided

As the sentence already states "Each year companies.....", therefore, use of "annually" is redundant.
Eliminate A,B,C.

Option D has usage error. That is, when we say X entity can save Y dollars, we are expected to specify how exactly that can be achieved. Option E does exactly that. Therefore, Option (E) is the best answer.

Hope this helps. Cheers

Hi,

(A) annually by preventing illness among employees and gain as much as \$200 billion through improving performance of workers if they simply provided - Annually and each year mean the same. Wrong option.
(B) annually if they prevented employee illness and gain as much as \$200 billion through worker performance improved by simply providing - Awkward sentence- Wrong
(C) annually in employee illness prevention and gain as much as \$200 billion through worker performance improved by simply providing - Wrong choice.
(D) in employee illness prevention and gain as much as \$200 billion through improving performance of workers if they simply provided- It seems company has to improve performance of workers. - Wrong choice.
(E) by preventing illness among employees and gain as much as \$200 billion through improved worker performance if they simply provided- Here -ing is parallel to -ed. By simply providing is changed to simply provided.- no serious error. so correct.

Eliminate Options A, B and C as these options contain redundancy error -----( sentence starts with each year... and in between 'annually' is used)

Option D)
in employee illness prevention and gain as much as \$200 billion through improving performance of workers if they simply provided
usage of through improving is incorrect.

Option E)
by preventing illness among employees and gain as much as \$200 billion through improved worker performance if they simply provided.
Correct option.

Kudos if it helps.
