Re: Election [#permalink]
I'm also getting 73.33%.

100 voters

So 70 voters for Sobel

60 Male so 40 female

35 % female voted for Lange, so 35/100 * 40 = 1400/100 = 14 females

So remaining (40-14) = 26 female voters for Sobel

So %age of male voters for Sobel = 44/60 * 100

= 11/15 * 100 = 220/3 = 73.33 %

Re: Election [#permalink]
i will solve this question like following
70% vote for S =>30% vote for L
60% is male => 40% female
S L
M 70-26=44%----16%
F 40-14=26<--- 0.35*40=14%
total 70___-----30

the answer is 44

Re: Election [#permalink]
M F total
L 16 14 30
S 44 70
Tot 60 40 100

35% of 40 = 14 ------Female voters that means 16 male voted for L
so 60-16 = 44

D is correct

Re: Election [#permalink]
Hi All- First post on this forum.

Wording in the original question is what's throwing me off...
It's asking for "...what percentage of the male voters voted for Sobel?"

44% would be the total percent of voters that were MALE AND VOTED for Sobel, would it not?
Following Fluke and Subhashghosh's logic, % of male voters that voted for Sobel would be (44/60)*100 = 73.33%

I see how they arrived at the answer, but I agree Madelaine, the wording is not very clear on this one...
