I will go with C
A - Makes it sound like elephants are originating from a small area on their foreheads.
B - very confusing structure and pronoun 'this' has no antecedent
D & E - 'it' has no antecedent

perezhan, kindly underline the sentence.

Also go with C.

A, D, and E are obviously ruled out. C is better than B because this, singular, is intended to represent low frequesncy sounds (plural).
