ExBenton Motor Company has developed a driver monitoring system that will warn the driver by flashing lights, and warning sounds if the driver is not paying attention to the road ahead, or a dangerous situation is detected. A spokeswoman for the company claims that the new system will make its new cars safer.
Let us break the question into Premise and Conclusion:
Premise : Monitoring System will warn the driver by flashing light and warning sounds, if the driver is not paying attention.
Conclusion : The new system will make the new car safer.
For Assumption question see the Jump between Premise and conclusion. How Monitoring system will make the car Safer?
Now let us see the option.
OA : D
The argument above rests on which of the following assumptions?
(A) The new system will be commercially successful. -> Will this give the answer How Monitoring system will make the car Safer? This is no where related to it.
(B) ExBenton Motor Company is likely to sell more cars if the new feature is available to the public. - > Not answering anything related to conclusion
(C) People unfamiliar with the new system could become distracted or confused by the system’s flashing lights and warning sounds. -> This is actually weakening the argument.
(D) Drivers of cars equipped with the new system are likely to know how to respond to the warning lights and flashing sounds to avert danger.-> This is the right answer. This will give the answer about safety, If the driver know how to respond, the car will be safe. Now negate this option, If the driver don't know how to respond, the conclusion will collapse.
(E) Similar driver monitoring systems have been proven to improve safety in both testing and on real-life conditions.-> No where related to conclusion.
